alloy bonnet and all... and i had some twit leave a dent in my 2.5i...

I agree, it does not take much to dent those bonnets, i remember seeing one at dent day which was lucky popped out.

Every time I put that stupid rod in its bloody hole I curse the Subaru bean counters, what do you reckon the difference is over umpteen thousand vehicles between a rod. and a hole compared to a couple of bonnet struts

A rod isn't going to lose it's strength. struts need to be recharged at regular intervals (couple of years I think). While this isn't a problem if done, if not done the struts would eventually not be strong enough to lift and hold the bonnet. To me, the rod isn't that much of an inconvenience, particularly in the knowledge that it isn't going to over time lose charge and fail me one day when I want the bonnet to be held open

Or another way of looking at it is the choice to use a simple, non wearing solution over complication and reduced reliability

I like the rod. Sure, it's a two hand operation to open instead of one, but I like the solid feeling that the rod strut won't buckle like a strut and slam the heavy steel bonnet upon me noggin while I'm working. I also prefer the close up to 2 inches, and then let it go to shut rather than applying some sort of force or pressure to shut it. Seen too many idiots try to close the remaining portion sticking up by sitting on it with their ass.

my bonnet is steel and holds it very well and to close just drop from about 4 or 6 cm to close.....i still have the rod just in case..so no dramas
