Thanks,

To make sedan struts fit a wagon, what would need to be done? custom top hat brackets?

I wouldn't bother 'making' them fit.

+1

I would invest in a proper fitting set rather than trying to customise/modify a sedan set for a wagon. Too many headaches.

I cant say for 100% sure with standard struts, But i do know with TEIN Coilovers you can just change the top hats over.
I other words there is a high chance that you could buy your self those sedan struts & swap your old wagon strut tops over & they will fit.
But beware wagon & sedans rear strut/spring combos often have different stiffness/compression rates You may find that they fit OK, BUT if the wagon struts are shorter than the sedans they may bottom out earlier & or make the car sit high....but i couldn't say for the liberty's if this is the case.

To be safe do some measurements of both a sedan & wagon strut or lay them next to each other.
