Heya All..

Well what an eventful weekend! Had a falling out with one of my mates, left his house in a hurry and took a corner too quickly, pranged the Sedan GT , thinking the sedan would handle as well as my wagon, and not realising the corner was covered in sand on brand new tarmac! Car slide straight into a kerb at about 40km/h (TC light flashing like a bitch!), has done some funky damage (from a quick look, at least the FRHS shock and joining bolt for the control arm are stuffed, quite possibly more, the FRHS wheel has some fantastic camber on it (~35`) tyre is touching the shock, and the engine has a "tick" (sounds like an 80's BMW) thats the thing that has me worried the most.

Left the car in Aveley last night and got a trailer this morning to take it home.. checked over the engine bay, no leaks (YAY!!) how ever, upper radiator hose was completely sucked in, took off the radiator cap and this resolved that problem (still a bit weird), car still ticks, but it engages drive and reverse perfectly, so NFI whats causing that.. No damage to the body work or the underneath of the car, wheel has a lot of deep scratches, (blitsens!) but doesnt seem to be warped.

Car's down at the mechanic's now, will wait for them open in the morning and then get the diagnosis, Im worried about just swapping out the shock myself incase I miss anything more major.

Luckily I am fine, and there was no one else in the car, it could have been a lot worse, just ruined an other wise brilliant weekend (and has stalled any mod's for a while!) (and I just cleaned and polished the car that bloody morning!)

Any ideas on the ticking sound?

Chris

Awesome camber :D

Is the ticking varying with road speed? Check your splash guards, it might be rubbing against your wheel as you drive.

haha.. with 35' camber on one wheel, I havent gone over about 3km/h (and have probably driven 500m if that, the tyre is rubbing against the shock, ticking is most obvious when the car is in neutral/park as soon as it has any load it inst noticeable.. I couldn't see anything fowling the belts/acc drives.

Glad to hear you're ok, Chris. At least the damage seems to be superficial (so far). Good luck on not discovering anything too severe later down the track.

Ironically I had put down a deposit on an R36 before I bought this GT, but decided against it after having taken one for a test drive..

Im trying to keep the cars I have got for 24 months.. It will be a record for me!

Actually, depending on what the prognosis is, this may be time for Bilsteins & new springs (if it is just the shock that is stuffed).. if its a lot more, then it will just be an OEM shock for now.. and fix what need fixing.. its just that DAMN tick that has got me worried)

Cheers for the kind words guys

12 month novelty lease.. after which, either the wife has caught on to the mod's that I have been doing, or I am at the stage where to take the car any further, serious work is required (which also sets the wife alarm bell ringing!)

and no.. 3 year lease has always worked (not that I have ever had a car for three years (other than my old EH Special)

firstly mate, glad your ok, and hope the car comes out of it ok..

had a similar experience here a while ago, when i was presented with a commo ute coming sideways at me, option 1 tbone. 2 swerve.. went for the swerve ,hit a ditch, rolled it onto its mirror which due to momentum pushed it back against the window, slammed back down on all 4s smacked the shyte out of my head on the pillar, and only thing that came out of that, was knowledge on how good the car doesnt steer with no rw traction, how hard the b pillar is, and how the awd works, getting me out of the ditch... came out of it with two busted rims, and a few superfical scratches..

either way mate, hope its nothing more than what you have found, and your noise is just something minor..
