Can any one with one of those infometres help me out plz....

Hey,

I have been doing some reading on here and have come to the conclusion that my car is using way to mush petrol compared to other people. So i have tried a few things like changing my driving styles and and the modes of the si drive. One thing i found is that some of you guys were talking about the AFR being higher than normal resulting in increased feul consumption and causing damage to the engine so i was wondering if these infometres would pick this up and if so before i bought one if some one in syd would be willing to meet up and try it out on my car i really want to get one anyway because at the moment i need prove everything to subaru as they never agree with me in re to problems until i involve some one else. Any way my car is an MY 08 year 08 GTB. If anyone could help it would be great if not i will just try and buy one ............. Thanks Heaps.....

How much fuel is your car actually using mate? Under what you would consider normal driving conditions etc.

I've got a EJ20T & even before mods etc, mine was running between 13 - 15L p/100kms. For info, I sit in traffic a lot in peak hour & I have been known to give it a bit of stick :wink:

I could be wrong but a high AFR reading means the car is running lean...

But I'd like to know if the infometer can take AFR reading from the ECU as needed.

yep, a high AFR (eg 14.9:1 as experienced by someone else here) is lean. Stoichiometric (ideal AFR for petrol) is around 14:1 however lower than that helps longevity of the engine through lower combustion temperatures. I don't think many tuners would got any higher than 13:1.

As a side note, Toyota played with lean cruise (might still be using it too) on some of their engines a few years ago in the name of increasing fuel economy. They were getting up to 22:1 in some circumstances IIRC

I think the sweet spot for GTs is 11.5-12, it was my car that was running 14.9

Thanks for all the replies.
My car is sitting on boyt 16 ih pretty much all the time unless i reset the trip metre on the mway and let the cruise control keep the car at 100 then it will drop but as soon as i sart to drive aound again i will shoot ack up to about 16. The prob i got s it doesn't seem to matter how i drive its allways pretty much the same if i boot it fo a while it might go up to about 18 - 19 and everytime i have picked up from subru it has been that high. when i first got the car i am pretty sure it used to use alot less although i am filling it up every 300 ish klm's. yesterday i filled up 53ltrs and the trip metre was reset the tank before it it read 595 so thats 100 ish ltres to 620 klms. this seems pretty bad to me. should have been alot higher klms i thought.

I have removed he resontor as per alot of the posts on here and have noticed that th ltr/km is siting at about 12.8 - 13.2 now. I have not changed anything else or the way i drive o i am a bit confused how this could have impacted the fuel econ. Any ideas or is this totally unrelated.

Also the spool up noise is not really there but i have found the exhurst note to be much deeper between 2000 to 3500 under load. i this normal ad was i suppose to bloke the whole where the resonator bottle was or leave it open.

i got the same figures too....but my driving is mostly heavy traffic.

when she gets a good run on the motors ways it will drop to about 9-10 litres.

your oem tune will be running rich, if you get a tune you will not only notice the increase in power but also a drop in the fuel usage.....

btw what model have you got?, i have greddy touch, will have to confirm if it has afr readings for you

yeah thats def why i am not in an office. Senator it is a brand spanker if your in syd i would be keen to meet up and se how good these are as i really want to get one.

no worries mate... i am sure we can arrange something at the next meet.... it has a data logging feature, which can give you around a 2 hours worth of data for 7 different reading...eg air flow, throttle%, boost, intake temp, water temp, afr, and few others.
