Upgrading Front Brake Set Up?

Postby WhiteGTB » Wed Dec 10, 2008 9:56 am

Now that my wheels can clear Brembo's, I am gonna start looking :)

No rush, no hurry... but if anyone has a spare set for the fronts let me know (PM).

Would love to have the stopping power of those gold nuggets.

Edited the Subject to reflect the topic.

Do you want the stopping power, or the bling?

They look great, but if it is stopping power you are after, the money can be spent far more effectively.

No no... not the bling. If the Brembo money can be spent on something with more stopping power then I am definitely interested. The faster you make your car, the better the brakes have to be IMO.

I just thought that Brembo's where the goods for that money.

Please let me know :)

Stop better then Brembo's for the same money or less.... YES PLease!

Ric, can you move this to the Brakes section please. Seems like I need to do more research on this topic before "Wanting To Buy" a better brake set up.

Thanks!

PS I will edit the Subject Field also when moved.

my logic for brakes:

dioesn't matter if you driving a microbox or a F1 car, if u need to stop, you need to stop.

Follow this recipe:

1. Ferodo DS2000 pads, DS2500 or something exotic if you are really serious
2. Any top quality fluid, changed frequently (very important)
2. DBA 4000 rotors or 2 piece with alloy hats if you want better cooling
3. Braided stainless steel brake lines
4. Master cylinder brace

If you really want to get carried away with the cooling:

5. Brake ducting front AND rear

I saw in another thread you were directed to speak with Tony Dunn at VSport, he is excellent and can help you out with a lot of that stuff. What he can't get, I'm sure Phat can.

That set up will outperform the standard STi Brembo package (at less than half the cost) in every way except maybe caliper flex. Caliper flex is un-noticable compared to the firewall flex without a brace.

Zero bling factor, lots of brake dust and pad squeal if you don't drive it hard enough though.

Thanks Coyote, that information is really helpful.

Called Tony (@VSport) about it and asked a heap of questions, will be talking to him more tomorrow.
