So anything >=87 is ok for weight rating?

From what I have found a speed rating of W = 270km/h, so anything >= that is ok too I presume.

I have mentioned previously that I have a set of Advan Sports (V103) on my liberty. The run last Satruday in the damp showed that they are as good as I am willing to push a tyre on the road in the wet. Some more confidence may over time highlight deficiencies in them but so far I'm pretty happy with them. RRP is around $375 a tyre. I managed to get them for $345 each after a bit of ringing around

Tony, how would you rate the V103's in terms of ride comfort and quietness?

pretty good mate. heaps better than the Nangkangs as far as ride comfort goes (even at 38 psi in comparison the the shitters at 32). Is a bit of noise over road joints and such but that could just be me noticing things that niggle me about the bilsteins. But yeah, pretty good. Would be happy to get them again at this point

Of course not but i'd rather put a tyre on with specs that match or exceed the OEM tyres. I can just imagine insurance company's using it against you if you make a claim and have lower rated tyres. Sounds silly but I wouldn't put it past them.

Definitely, and also can get defected for it too. Just stick with the W speed rating, you'll be fine. Most tyres will meet that specification.

In relation to whether the RE050A OR RE001 is biased towards comfort, I believe the RE050A is.

Looking at the specs, the RE050A has a load rating of 87, whereas the RE001 has a rating of 91. They are both obviously the same profile/size and speed rating. In order to achieve the higher load rating the RE001 must have sturdier sidewalls, which would result in less comfort as more road shock is transferred to the car.

So in a nutshell, if you want a soft comfortable tyre get the RE050A. If you want a firmer one that also should have quicker steering feedback, get the RE001.

Maybe.....

I've had the RE050A and am now running the RE001 and I can say for sure that the RE001 has a softer sidewall and definitely less steering feedback. Overall the 050 is a much better tyre and does everything better than the RE001 apart from comfort, but that's the price of feedback.

The load rating is not a direct indicator of side wall stiffness.

I am glad that I found this thread. I am having a hard time deciding between the Re 050a and RE 11. My main problem is that the RE 11 doesnt come as 215/45/18 but starts from 225/(40/45)/18. Can a 225 tire fit on the standard 7 inch rim that the 3.0R spec b's use?

Also has anyone ever heard of the RE 760 Sport. (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp ... E760+Sport) Image of the tire is below.

That sucks. Would a 225 tire fit a 7 inch rim though?

225 will ft a 7inch wheel no problem however 215 is optimal for minimal lateral sidewall flex (the tyre squirming across the width of the wheel). You are better off with 215s and running higher tyre pressure which will allow less longitudinal sidewall flex (the tyre squirming across the circumference of the wheel). I don't see any real benefit in fitting 225s for this reason, unless it allows you to get your hands on a tyre that isn't reasonably available in 215 for that profile.

On my old car I ran 235 on a 7inch wheel and it was at the limits of the tyre's min wheel width rating but still was OK. I did this because a 225 tyre was horrendously expensive. (225/50/R17 versus 235/45/R17).

RE-01R were available in Australia so I imagine if the RE-11 was replacing it, then they too should become available. BTW unless you definately need an R rated compound, I recently changed from the RE-050A to RE-001 and I love them. They are 95% as good if not as good, and certainly cost a LOT less. $207.00 versus $350.00 it is not a hard choice.

I agree with Jim. I too have the RE-001 and I love them aswell.
I have had them for 2 years now and they have treated soo well.
Just keep looking after them rotate and balance and they still have soo life life in them.

Well unfortunately for me I cant get the RE-01R. I was looking at getting back RE-050As again but saw that the RE-11 had slightly better performance for roughly the same price. Also reviews for it were quite good.

However I think the RE-760 sport tire which sells in the US (and cost a lot less than the RE-050A) maybe the RE-001 tire that is sold in Aud.

Take at look at the tread pattern in these two pics. Left is the RE-001 and the RE-760 sport is on the right.
