Can anybody tell me what the differences are between the RE050A and the RE001?

What i really want to know is which is the better tire regardless of price.

The RE050A is a MUCH better tyre than the RE001.

(And I have RE001s)

also much more expensive too.

altho according to some websites the adrenelins are better. but i agree with coyote, the re050a's are much better.

You'll find that the RE050A are a very good all round tyre (If I'm not mistaken, it's technically Bridgestones top of the range?).

The RE001 is ment to be more of a performance based tyre, so a bit more road holding at the cost of extra road noise & firm ride.

Haven't had any experience with the RE001's on the Liberty, but my cousin has them on his MX5 & thinks they are the bomb

IMO, I think the RE050A is a good tyre but very over priced & to some extent over rated. There are tyres that perform as well if not better for less. In fact if you looking for a top notch street performance tyre the RE11 is ment to be the best (Import only) or the Falken RT615's (Currently selling for $328 - $380 each).

I'm still on the original RE050A but my impression is the RE001 is newer but slightly comfort orientated compared to the 050A.

My father has the RE001 on his C200K merc and loves them, but that car's all about ride and comfort.

I too would appreciate other opinions on these tyres as well as the RT615.

From the tread pattern on the RE001's, I wouldn't say they were comfort / luxury style tyres

For info, the RE050A's are used as OEM tyres on a lot of higher performance cars such as (Of course) Liberty GT's & HSVs. So really, it's a safe choice to go for when your up for new rubber. I've just never been a bit fan of OEM tyres, you pay heaps because they are "OEM" tyres.

Have heard nothing but good things about the RT615's. They are ment to be a solid performance tyre & I know it seems to be the tyre of choice for cars that have trouble putting their power down, like the MPS 3

Only down side that I'm aware of is that they do wear out quickly. So if your doing the normal 20k a year, you'll be getting a set of tyres every 12 months... Which isn't a bad thing considering the cost of our cars & the amount of mods a lot of us have done.

RE050A is the OEM equivalent of RE001. Being OEM, it's expensive. Like what Matt said.

And they aren't a bad tyre, either.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

There seems to be a difference in opinions regarding the RE001s. I have tried to check out all the marketing stuff about the adrenelins but i can't work out if it's supposed to be better than the RE050As.

I'm essentially after a good road tire that's not a semi-slick 'cause I do a lot of interstate driving.

I'm running some Federal tires ATM, because they came with the Volks I bought. These are sh!t. The only upside is that when you do lose traction, they squeal like a car in a 70's TV show.

On a more serious note, I'll be up for 4 new tyres in the new year and have been very happy with the the performance/noise/durability of the RE050As, too bad about the expensive cost. $380 for 17" tyres is extreme in my book. I'm hoping to get a decent tyre for around $250 each. Is that being too optamistic?

RE001 just won Motor tyre test... I still prefer the 050a but not the price. A good option it seems as they are cheaper.

The 050a has terrific turn in feel and great lateral grip, if you're just commuting they'd be wasted.

I've just got off the phone with a good mate who has been selling Bridgestones for the past 25 years.

He feels the RE001 may have a little more grip but at the expense of noise and comfort. So my original perception was wrong!

He's just put a set of RE001 on his car (Statesman) and is disappointed in the ride quality.

As stated 050A are expensive but he thinks a nicer tyre overall.

We're talking about the top end of the market here and probably differences between the tyres come down to personal choice.

Holy Crap... I was right about something :dance:

I still believe that you should look outside of the Bridgestone brand. They are a good tyre, but not the best. I'm running a set of Kumo's that I bought off Louey awhile back & IMO they are every bit as good as the RE050A's + they look meaner :wink:

I'm using Hankook V12 K110 at the moment, quite happy with them. 18s cost me $240 a corner, I think it was, or something around there. Comfortable and quiet, too.

How important is the speed and weight rating? For example the RE001's don't come in a 215/45/17 87W tyre (speed and weight rating).

Make sure you get the minimum legal rating, otherwise you can, and probably will, get defected for it.
