H7 Globes... how much?

Postby Kevlar GT » Wed Nov 26, 2008 2:07 pm

Just wondering what I should expect to pay for H7 Globes as one of mine has gone and I will be calling past Repco or the like on the way home. Need to know whether to extend the mortgage or not.

Cheers,
Kev

You may as well get HIDs. I can get you a brand new set for $160 delivered to your door (Express post) and it'll be far brighter than any halogen globe.

Otherwise, a replacement standard globe should be no more than $10, if it's more than $10 then you're being reamed.

Unless you do a brand name likes Philips then it'll be like $60.

Yeah, bought a set of the "blue/white" style Narva globes and parkers but didn't install the parkers yet - look like a prick to get at. I am happy with the slightly brighter than stockers I got. 2 x globes and 2 x parkers were $60.

Not sure what home brand globes you can find for $10 though, even the cheap and nasties were about $20 per single.

Might consider HIDs next time I have to consider this - by then they will be the same price as the ones I got.

Kev quit wussing out and get HID's already! :big_boss: If you spend close to $40-$50 for new globes, you're just being silly, considering the benefits and value of the HID kits nowadays. It only takes all of 20 minutes to set up too! :good:

For every time I see a car on the road and they can't even afford HID's after spending all that money on the car, I just laugh. A good car let down by it's ugly halogen headlights. Don't make me put you in that category! :pardon:

And don't kid yourself. Blue/white/superwhite halogens are still yellow and look fake. :beee:

Excuse the potentially dumb question - I thought the reflectors in the standard headlights were not technically suitable for HID - the HID lamps required a different shaped reflector or you ended up with a screwy light dispersal :?:

i found the philips diamond thingy useless.

they are great when they work, but they only last 6~9 months.

i've had them in 2 different cars and foudn it was cheaper to go to HiD then to keep buying these things.

It would be if you were to use a factory HID lamp like a D2S or D2R, which are longer than the H7.

But the HID conversion kits nowadays all offer a HID lamp that matches the length of your halogen lamp setup. So the HID lamp for the H7 application would be a shorter length to match the original H7 halogen bulb.

The OEM Xenon projector (JDM Legacy for MY04-06 owners) is MUCH nicer than the halogen projectors that we have in Australia. Nicer cutoff.

I go through the back way ... through the fendor that is. Turn the wheel, peel back the inner guard cover, and you should be able to access the parker that way.

I didn't have to. I have girly Asian hands
I can change the parkers without removing anything, too.

Bastard ! I went inside and did the mandatory "F'in Subaru, gotta pull half the car apart to get the simplest of things changed !!" - I could touch the connector but no way could I move it at all. Might have to see if the wife can get her hands in to remove the connection.

I had the Narva +50's on the forester and they lasted a couple of years and were still going when I sold the car, so hopefully their white/blue ones last the same. If not HID upgrade might have to happen.

You know what they say about big hands 8) (big gloves)

I'll give your way a shot jim! Hopefully that applies to HID's too in case a bulb ever dies! Speaking of which, lately one of my HID's doesn't seem to be turning on when I want it to. I turn them off then on again and poof both on.. weird. Any ideas?
