James is driving a Legacy Diesel against a Jag and a VW Golf in a challenge to get from Switzerland to Blackpool on one tank, in time to turn on the lights - still watching it so don't know what happens...

Actually last weeks episode they let slip that the Legecy/Liberty was 1 of only 3 cars they all liked

pretty good actually.. think it was 74 miles per gallon.

the jag was the best. wasn't even meant to get within 200 miles of blackpool, so jeremy flogged it hoping to run out near his house, but then decided to take it serious and made it. *sorry to ruin the suspense*

74mpg? That's hybrid territory. Why would you bother getting a prius if a TD Lib can get that?

They were driving conservatively - or May and the Hampster were anyway.

In fact May even put masking tape over the gaps on the edges of the bonnet to improve aerodynamics.

74 mpg is 31.5 kpl !

they were driving like grandma's though to squeeze as much as possible out of the tank... apparently has no power until you floor it, which would lower your economy obviously...

was talking to Leon up at northside 4x4 (in qld) when I was getting my STi Impreza retuned recently...

as they are pretty well known for their big number diesel engines (they have a 7 second turbo diesel drag ute) they were saying the subaru turbo diesel engines will mod up better then any other t/d on the market because of the boxer design...

apparently because it's only two cyclinders per bank keeping the balance of the engine which is of vital importance in a straight six/v6/v8 is no longer a problem, and they're expecting to get almost as good a figures from the subaru turbo diesel as the subaru turbo petrol....

food for thought that's for sure...

because diesel is about $0.40 per/lt dearer then standaard unleaded..in europe the prices are almost the same thats why more then half of new cars are diesel....
my father has a mazda 6 diesel. same model in npetrol was $4800 cheaper. calculation means with the difference in price of cars and fuels, it would take about 200,000k's to break even......shane
