Puff White Smoke when starting

Postby sleepergtb » Tue Dec 26, 2006 11:19 am

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.

Not sure if it is related (never saw it before this) but I had my 5000 service done a couple of weeks back and on two occasions now where the car has sat for 2-3 days and not been driven when I start it there is a puff of white smoke and I mean a fair bit out of both mufflers.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Could be some of the upper engine cleaner residue - but a couple of weeks is a long time for that to remain... In those weeks, how was the car driven? - ie, long distance? hard?

The service was done on the 18th. I have probably done 400km easy driving since the service including a trip from Sydney to Wollongong and back. It seems to occur when cold after having sat for a couple of days.

Maybe its just me but isnt a small white puff of smoke normal in the mornings when you start the car and the engine is stone cold, isnt it blue or black smoke which show signs for concern.

Are you sure it's smoke, and not just water vapour?

Could well be, as said it is pretty thick but disapates quickly.

I will see if it has a smell next time it happens.
