Personally I'd go Canon, but like Tangles said.... Cause that is pretty much the same advice I would give

Bear in mind, no matter how good the gear you have, you need to learn how to use it.

I got mates that shoot with a 350D, L glass (of course) and can out do most pros

Heaps of stuff to learn with a Digital SLR, have fun!!!

Man have things changed since I bought my Canon XL1 back in 99. Not even 10 years later and what was the biggest and baddest then isn't even a pimple on the arse of what's around today.

Back on topic I found the IS lenses only worth the extra $$ if you shoot handheld at low shutter speeds. They were a god send when I was shooting bands on film but with todays DSLRs and the clean ISO ranges I'd rather put my money towards L series glass. The 24-105L is a great lens but with the 1.6x conversion from 35mm I'd be looking at the 17-40/4.0L for an everyday lens. Assuming you go with Canon that is.

i dont know much about cameras, im getting the nikkon D90 next month, i just went on what the in-laws told me and what i mainly want to use it for, plus it can do HI-DEF video too. I didnt want anything too basic, as i believe your better off to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
