You guys get it pretty good in other states. I get stung like $480 a year to have my plates

Found out last week that you Queenslanders can get full on custom plates! IE - Pick the colour, put on a logo etc... I know it's not what you'd consider a cheap exercise, but how awesome would that be :!: :?:

You should get some Team White plates made up

It's the same here. Once you've paid for the plates, you only pay standard rego fees for subsequent years.

that's the way it was in NSW up to 4 or 5 years ago. Then the RTA decided they could fleece people yet again

As usual, we all pay the price for living in NSW.

Sydney siders get ripped on everything! Higher fuel costs (Not at the moment  ) higher property values etc etc etc.

after a few trips to W.A i could see no rhyme or reason to their plates(in a good sense) in that there were plates with like 8 or 9 letter words and such. what you perth-ites probably don't know is that we in nsw are kinda restricted to 6 digits/letters/combo or less and if you do anything out of the ordinary like for example ABC 123 or ABC 12A we get charged like we're pommy tourists at Pamplona. even if we are so bold as to request a specific but normal plate in the format mention we get charged extra  my plate is AD 974 and it cost $50 bucks to get made and it costs just under $100 per year to have... go figure?
I spend most of my money on booze, fast cars and women, I just waste the rest...

I can understand a one-off charge to have a plate made "out of sequence", including if you want to have an old plate re-made, but an extra charge per year is just profit taking.

(p.s. RIC-323 is a normal plate here, and I got it only a month or two before it would have been issued as a normal sequence number, but I had to pay a once-off charge to get specifically that one.)

Here is the RTA's list of fees for non run of the mill number plates

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/myrta/myplate ... rucks.html

As you can see there is a fair bit of variation in annual costs with no real reason from what I can tell
