Trip Computer/Clock playing up

Postby gt_dicko » Fri Dec 22, 2006 8:27 am

Hey all,
The past couple of days I've noticed that the clock/trip computer display has been only working intermitently on my car. (No display at all sometimes) If I give it a tap it comes good, but the other day they clock lost it's time which was annoying.
I suspect that there's a dry solder joint in there somewhere.

Has any one had thiers out of the dash? If I pull it out, can the PCB be accessed easily to fix the problem?

Warranty runs out in Feb.
I'll give them a call about it, There's a couple of other things that I need to talk to them about too. Rattling cruise control switch, and recently got a bit of brake shudder.
Not sure if the last two will be covered by warranty, but I guess it's worth finding out about.

Got the Subaru assured warranty, which kicks in after factory runs out in feb.
That's another 3 years, but it's limited in what it covers.

Bit of a 'bump' here, but I had the same problem today.

I noticed it stopped working, so I gave it a tap and it came back before fading away for good. When I got home I pulled it out, but couldn't see anything wrong with it. I think it still functions correctly as pressing the 'Bright' button dims/brightens the dash lights.

Anyone have any ideas on where to get a replacement and a rough cost? I had a quick squizz on japanparts.com without luck. Might have to ring some wreckers. If all else fails I'll probably have to hand over a kidney at Subaru.

Cheers

I've found that my display doesn't turn on sometimes - turn off the engine, turn it back on and it's fine though.

Yep, i have the same problem too, it turns off every now and again, and usually a gentle tap will turn it back on.

I will check at my next service if this is under the extended warranty...

Rang a few wreckers today with no luck. Will have to hunt around Brisbane.

Priced one at Subaru, $337.55 (Part #: 85201 AG010).

Unfortunately mine hasn't come back at all, even with varying levels of persuasion with the fingers  .

I ended up getting mine replaced under warranty, haven't had a prob since.
I suspect that it had some dry solder joints somewhere in it, although didn't bother checking as SA replaced it :D
If you can handle a soldering iron, or know someone who can, it might be worth pulling it out and make sure that all the joints are okay.

or...
