Centre Pipe on MY07

Postby GTSPECB STI » Wed Nov 12, 2008 5:43 pm

Can anyone enlighten me on what the diameter is for the stock centre pipe on a MY07 GT TB STI ? I am looking at replacing it with a fabricated one and high flow cat but need some direction on what the optimal diameter of the pipe should be, 3", 2 1/2" ??

Standard LGT is 2 1/4" Just had mine replaced with 3"

I believe the TBSTI runs an identical exhaust bar the mufflers.. so I would presume yours is the same

Nik at ASG is going to fabricate and install it all for me but he asked me what I wanted? I'm like uuummmmm not sure let me check. I reckon I can go 3" or 2 1/2" as the Phat dump came with couplers for both sizes from memory.

When Phat fitted my dump we ummed and arghed and in the end went with 3 inch all the way, did not drive with the standard piping before but did listen, the 3 inch was fractionally louder again and much deeper in tone again, as for performance I cant say over the 2/1/2 but very happy with the performance gain with the total package, after I do a bit more and tune should really notice some more gains
Hope this helps

if i was to do an exhaust i would go a 3 inch all the way to the Split Diff backs Dave.. then go a 2.25-2.5 inch rear diff sections... This will provide increased torque over a full 3 inch system and the car will pull all the way to red line.

Also with the dump pipe try modifying it and put a splitter in it to match the turbo. you will see about a 200rpm earlier spool up and also around a 4 to 5 kw increase at the wheels

as mentioned above, run your "Y Pipe" at 2.25' best combination of noise vs performance, and still keep the exhaust neatly tucked away

correct as I am hoping to avoid having spend more money on a new set of cans and wanted to retain the stock look to the car.

Ok. Just wondering. Because all these mods and little tweaks you're doing is good, but you're still bottle necked at the mufflers. That's not to say you won't get major gains. It's just that you won't get the full potential of them. :D
