05 Forester Sti or Legacy GT wagon?

Postby Breeze » Mon Dec 18, 2006 5:11 pm

Guys,

I bought a jap spec GTB 04 recently and think it is hands down the best car I have ever owned. I sold my JDM 2004 integra type R to buy it. 4 doors, 206kw and good fuel economy is everything I could wish for and it cost less than what I got for the Integra!

The hard part (or easy) is that it is also everything my partner could wish for and it is a fight for the keys each morning. The Honda accord euro station wagon (yep we get all the weird stuff in NZ) doesn't pass muster anymore. I tested a 2005 sti forester and was amazed by it. Simply the biggest grin factor I have had in a long time. The wagon version of the GT also appeals for all the same reasons I love the sedan.

Who can comment on the fuel consumption of the 2.5l donk versus the 2.0l. The forester sti is detuned to 190kw but it felt much meatier down low especially with the short shift 6 spder. I am concerned she'll be a tad thirstier though.

Hey Breeze, I can't really comment on the Lib GT as I have a 3.0RB but I did have an XT Forester and they are a great car. Not as much luxury as the Lib though so keep that in mind. We don't get the Forester STi here – if we did I wouldn't be driving a Liberty...

Fuel consumption shouldn't be too far off. When I had the Forester, my business partner had a WRX (2.0 model) and it was worse on fuel than the XT and I drive harder than him... My guess is they'd be pretty similar. Lib GT is smaller capacity hauling more weight.

Let us know which way you go... and make sure you post some pics of the Forrie 8)

I think the the Fozzy has some real character to it.

I think when one buys a car with a bit of meat to it - fuel economy shouldn't be a big factor. when u push it a bit it all goes out the window anyway.
If you want fuel economy get a kei car.

Caldina GT4 comes in auto only option and not something I am too keen on.

The forester fuel economy is a bit arbitrary I admit, not sure if I like the facelift but that model will probably hold the most resale. Insurance makes up for the fuel economy though.

As the legacy is NZ's most stolen car the cost is huge (even though not a single 03+ model has been stolen. The freester Sti however, there are only about 15 in NZ none of which have been stolen so the insurance is rock bottom.

Looks like the forester will be landing here in the new year in white or silver. Something like this

So much for the white or silver and wasn't able to stretch to the 05 but 04 in blue landed with 30Kkms on it. Goes pretty well!

There was a rumor floating around last year that Australia would get the Forester STi this year but haven't seen any more about it :( Shame we don't get them, I would have got one instead of the Lib
