2006 Subaru Liberty Spec B Bumper conversion?

Postby Kayl » Tue Sep 20, 2016 1:14 pm

Hi everyone,

I am looking to buy a 2006 Subaru Liberty Spec B, I am looking for some advice when it comes to bumper conversions. personally I am not a fan of the bumper on the 2006 model. Does anyone know how hard it would be to do a bumper conversion? I want to go from the 2006 model to the 2007 model. Anyone know if there is a tutorial or a build log for this?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, it is possible :). I'll try to find some info. You'll need the post facelift headlights as well.

For the pre facelift to post facelift front, you need lots of stuff... front fenders, headlights, fog lights, front bumper cover, bumper beam, fog lights, and fender liners. For the rear you need the tail lights and rear bumper cover.

Do you guys think that it would be worth the effort and time? I really like the 07 front bumper

I'd start by getting the $s added up, and decide from there. You'd obviously get the parts from a wrecker (new they'd be crazy expensive). And then spray painted, unless you find one with the same colour. I don't know what all of that is worth, but if you can get it for under $1k, then I'd do it. If it's more like $2k+, then you'd have to be really keen to want to do the swap.

It'll never be financially worth it - ie it won't make your car worth more. I don't see anyone who'd pay extra for a pre facelift when they can just buy a post facelift.

The time it'll take is not much of an issue. I'd say a day or two max, even with only basic tools. It's the money more than anything.
If you do it, you'll love it every time you look at it. Just keep in mind almost no one else will notice, they'll just think it's a post facelift lol.
I prefer the post facelift bumper as well, so you have to decide if overall the cost and time is worth it for you.

Since you haven't bought the 2006 yet, why not just pay a bit extra and get a 2007. It's probably going to workout the same cost.

Oh, I missed that  .
Since you haven't bought the car already, buy a post facelift. There are numerous advantages of one vs pre facelift (SI-drive, less headgasket problems etc). The only thing slightly better is pre facelifts are cheaper, which won't be once you do a bumper swap.

You can modify a post face bumper slightly to fit the pre-face lights though, so there is that. You don't need the lights.
