Door locking and security modules location.

Postby Montychristo » Fri Aug 12, 2016 7:02 pm

Hi,
Over the last few days I have taken out and replaced the dash pad in MY08 SpecB Auto at the same time I installed a reversing camera linked into the Sat Nav. I now find I have no keyless door locking or security working! Both keys worked prior to the dash replacement. I have checked through the available workshop manuals I cannot see any reference to location in case I may have dislodged a plug or connector during the removal and replacement of the second hand non sticky dash.
Any help would be appreciated.

Did you use body grounds for the reverse camera install?

Also checking the diagnostic procedure in the fsm for the security/ central locking system.

Personally I've not had to deal with this issue but I'd jfgi and also site specific search (see my google link in sig)...

Do it this way :)

Also try legacygt, svxdc is the factory electronics guru :P

Afaik the body integrated unit is easy enough to damage requiring replacement and recoding at the dealer. Luckily it's easy to replace...

So yeah I'm kinda on the right track.

First check your cars battery charge off, on startup and warmed up, should be eg 12V, 14.3V, 14V.
Check your key battery.

Confirm rev cam install re: eg grounds & power, reverse sense signal, power to number plate light eg if licence plate light replacement type camera etc... Don't use loom grounds, use body grounds. Generally too much load on the often variable resistance loom wires can cook the bcm...

Seat all install affected and related plugs.

Diagnostics for keyless entry etc.

Eg make sure the system is all hooked up & communicating with the bcm (body control module aka body integrated unit).

Everything not working may indicate BIU / BCM issues, should be way less than a coupla hunge from a subi wrecker eg mordy, rss etc. and a trip to the dealer for reset.

Iirc the BCM is under/next to the steering column (left side) with a crap ton of plugs n loom.
Practice the operation on a similar wreck in a self serve yard.

Do some more research and let us know ;)

Hi BBB :-),

No easy cheap fix sadly. I have been back over the dash short of taking it out and checked all the plugs as to being tight and snug, all were except the DVD satnav that had to be bent out of shape to get at the two air bag bolts. It must have been making enough of a contact to ask for the factory disk to update the the Nav file and date. the BCM was well out of the way of any possible direct contact when putting in the new dash, all plugs are tight.
I had to modify the harness a little, the front AC sensor close to the windscreen wire was not long enough and I could not get my hand in to unplug it so the harness was lengthened, the same applied to the center dash speaker I joined both back into the harness after instillation of the dash. I found that the front air bag plug on the new dash would not click into the female to make a solid contact. I cut off the old male plug and soldered and heat shrunk all the joints, the air bag passes the start up cycle and did not give any drama after a drive around the block.

Battery condition was good as only 1mnth old and heavy duty 12.5 14.4 and 14V.

Remote controls battery's were 2.94 and 2.92 the car shows up the key proximity symbol when the key is near by, they will start the car and allow the drivers and passengers door to be locked individually just no remote function. :(

The reversing camera into the sat nav was powered from the reversing light circuit with a dedicated separate body earth from day one.

After even more internet searches it would appear your suggestion of BCM problem would seem spot on. A trip to the Subaru dealer on Monday morning to confirm then source a second hand unit. Are they model related or will any Liberty BCM work for my 2007 MOY08 SpecB?

Many thanks for your time and suggestions :D

I'd imagine soldering the airbag connections could have fried the bcm or airbag control module?

Usually airbag plugs are a two stage click connection, need to pull out, or slide in, a lock on the plug before seating the plug in its socket. Certainly for the connections to the seats and horn pad airbag.

At any rate please consider all my comments as departure points for moar research, natch.

I need to research the bcm replacement, iirc a long flat right angle pry, eg a bent screwdriver, is required to pop it off its mounts which lock to the steel body mounts with interference buttons on the plastic bcm housing.
Edit I got that wrong, the mount simply bolts to the steering column, I missed that and ripped the case from the mount :P

So yesterday I fried my Bcm rigging up some lights (put the diodes the wrong way  ) because the bcm is also the immobiliser circuit or so it seems can I just plug and play a old unit with the corresponding immobiliser chips? Or will I have to take it to the dealer and fork out some cash for them to code it for me?
We both might have different cars & different styles
But we both share the same passion

Just google the last sentence on this forum for us plz. :P
Edit: dr20t commented on a concurrent thread that recoding is required post swap, eg dealer or auto elec with appropriate tools.

BIU:
Here's a breakdown of p/ns and models.
http://subaru.ilcats.ru/part/market/lhd ... ddtr_88281

There's also a dedicated Central locking unit on the passenger side under the dash, perhaps that's worth checking & replacing?

See here http://opposedforces.com/parts/legacy/e ... tration_1/
I'll look up the p/n later.

So look in self serve wreckers for compatible models and you should be able to get both for well under $200 like way under.

This has been an interesting learning curve with its high and low's.
After reading BBB's list of possibles and remembering I had a very primitive OBD II reader I thought why not see if any faults were showing up.
All clear nil faults, with this in mind I held off tracking down possible replacement parts eg Keyless controller unit or the suggested Integrated unit 88281AG360 until after consulting with the Subaru dealer.

I managed to have my car looked at by the Subaru Dealer Today 16/8/2016. A quick diagnose as to nil key less entry, battery's in both key's under the required 3Volts.
After replacing the battery's partial return of some features, with programing to get both keys reconfigured all features have been returned :-).
I had a chat with the workshop foreman as to possible causes: He put it down to low voltage in the remotes and unexplained loss of memory in the key module.
Dealer supplied and fitted batteries $30.00 and $99.00 to re program the keys Total $129.00.

Many thanks BBB for your info and suggestions.

One thing I will add is the air bag plug release for the passenger side is a different design and had me stumped for days until Tom Kauf suggested compressing the green sprung part of the plug.
It is so simple that it is missed by many including my self :bad:
