Did over 100kms today and in a much smoother fashion to usual!

The relocation of the Maf has indeed fixed this niggling cruise issue.

Cant believe no one could suggest this earlier and I spoke to many people at workshops in Perth.

I'm thinking of going the AVO FMIC route now, yes I will also have to muck about with my fuel system to do this.

Findings are that the WTA gets too heat soaked in traffic and takes too long to cool down.

So there you go, ATA can save 20degrees or so over a WTA as measured by Justin on his racewars car in Perth.

Thoughts forum team??

Skip the AVO and make one up yourself. Could then go to a blowthrough MAF aswell to make tuning easier.
Cost me well under half what the AVO one was gonna be, may not be so bad for you in Aus though. Shipping was a killer when I was looking.

Had a Frozen Boost W2A system on my supercharged falcon a while back. The heat soak wasnt as bad as you thought. The heat exchanger did most of the work and when the thermos kicked in, it was fine during summer. I could come home after driving, lift the bonnet, and hold my hand on the core of the IC and it was cool to the touch. On cold nights, the core had condensation on it. This is all while the core in under the bonnet above extractors with a heat shield in between. Water fill up point location was the most crucial as well as the piping used.

Thats my 2c on the WTA system based on my experience.
Cheers

Avo is basically the same dimensions as my current so should be easy to fit in well with my bumper opening. End tanks are good on the avo too.
Still a lot of coin!
Thanks Shav.
Will install GM air temp sensor first to track actual exit temps before this ATA .
May have to have a heat shield fabbed. Exhaust housing too close to heat exchanger. ...hmmm

Cheers for thoughts gents

I fitted heat exchanger behind radiator of the falcon but not sure if you will have the room on a liberty or not. Careful planning of either setup is needed before handing over coin. Good luck with it

that sucks man.....

I love my WTA...always super cool....I think a FMIC would be good, if you had a water sprayer.....you should set one up

my temps will jump in traffic...e.g 35 degree day with 50 degree intake...but when I start moving it will drop by 10-20 degrees in 5mins...plus my temp sensor is in a metal pipe post IC, so my pipe heats up quickly

I think for the track a WTA would not be good, but for street mine is great...

If I could have a bonnet with massive air vents to get the heat out it would help a lot! Those s14 lads have options on these, hella jelly

But .... that is illegal here so hence my investigation into other options like the fmic.

in the AVO FMIC there is less mass of the intake charge cooling system will be under the bonnet so less to cool down once the car starts moving again.
The heat off the headers and the turbo pools in the upper engine bay and warms up the in bay heat exchanger more than dissipates from the front exchanger when the car is not moving.

Going AVO front mount, fuel replumb, replace surgetank & adding oil cooler soon as I can source.

Then I'll redo the front bar by adding ducting and be finished!

Fascinating, I had to google draw through vs blow through for a refresher and found this:
http://www.lasotaracing.com/techdrawthroug.html

Explains a lot including the need for mafs to have a straight shot in front for laminar flow.

If you were to persist with the wta, surely a comprehensive spray system and tank/header heat shield ala Jacksons might help. But going fmic has advantages with a slight loss if throttle response as the only possible downside ( but get a sprayer fo sure ;) )

Thanks Ben.
IME the PWest intake is best suited to SD tune as they put the maf after the bend which is no good.
I'm enjoying the car more now it is not a jerking around at cruise and surging at low throttle.

Pretty sure that there is too many clutch packs in the Auto box as the changes are brutal but awesome.

I'm looking forward to retuning with the FMIC, I really believe far more cooling dynamic range will help power.

I'm running a 3576 soooo need to cool the exit air so I can really wail on this thing and keep power.

Heat soak kills the WTA system in traffic! Bigger exhaust housing is closer to the WTA heat exchanger unfortunately.

If I can get this thing to drive how it does when oil is only around 80degreesC and it has not been in traffic it will be awesome!
After being in traffic a 6cyl commodore can get me to 50kmhr FFS!

Motor is properly run in now, sooooo much better the seagulls effort.

New radiator.
Seal /improve air pathway into radiator.
Atf thermostat in atf cooler lines.
Oil cooler n plug water pump n block

Going to be fun time off work in a few weeks :D

Just be careful with thermostat in your ATF lines.
