How do I clean the hood lining?

Hey all, I'm just getting my 3.0 RB back to a nice level, I bought it as a virtual basket case) and one thing thats giving me the shits is the hood lining.

The car was obviously a runabout for ankle-biters with no control because there's cruddy marks, choc milk (I hope it's chocmilk ) stains and the owner was also a smoker so it STINKS.

What can I do to clean it without attacking the lining or the adhesive that holds it to the acutal frame?

I was thinking steam cleaning it maybe?

I'm pretty sure it has some foam behind the outer trim, not sure if steam cleaning with ruin it. I'd just replace it.
