Lowering an MY05 GT

Hi Guys,

Looking to lower the wifes MY05 GT (it's an 04 model) just wondering what options are around, i.e. kings, lows/supers using springs from a wrx etc those types of scenarios...

Kind of new to the liberty world, but well familiar with the Impreza end having had 2 of them in the past (current ride is an 05 STi Impreza)

i have a my04 gt aswell and am going through the suspension stage.

everyone will tell you coilovers are the way to go, and i agree but they are the more costly item, i have a set of whiteline lowerred springs and they really dont lower the car that much but they do bring the front down and make it sit alot more level which is nice, im now on the path of going through KMAC and having some Custom set springs made, they charge about $170 per set and thats delivered any hieght you want, just tell them the drop from stock and theyl send them out, so thats my next move.

hey mate, I'm sure a few will help you out here, a lot of us have coilovers, but there is a few on here that are on lowered springs! so for the guys with the springs, help this bloke out, he needs to DROP THAT SHIT!

Hi Matt, welcome to the forum. Search is your friend! There have been about a billion posts on this in the past. However before you do a search, just ask yourself what you want from this lowering. Handling? Looks? Comfort? And how picky are you or your wife about the car's appearance. Because then you'll know whether or not to go coilovers or just springs, and what sort of springs as each brand will lower the car differently.

had coil overs on the STi - took them off, wife won't allow in a heart beat coil overs on her car... even though we're on the gold coast we do a lot of driving in the country to visit family and coil overs are just way to harsh on the sub-par roads.

so we'd be lowering mainly for looks, just to tuck the wheels a little nicer into the guards, the lib is a family car, so looks/comfort are the priority, handling isn't a concern, have the STi for track days and fun spirited driving

In that case, I would probably recommend either Tein S.Tech's, Tein H.Tech's, or Eibachs. STi pinks are ok but they're a bit too soft and bouncy. S.Tech's are a good compromise between looks and comfort. Handles well to boot! Same goes for Eibach (swingn has it on his wagon), which is more dear in price but the ride is tops. Otherwise the H.Techs should be good for a very moderate amount of lowering if you're worried about clearance. My pick would be the S.Techs. You can do a search on 'tein' and read about them from previous posts. But nothing but positive feedback for the S.Techs.

Hey, just reading the forum and was just wondering if you recommend the same springs for a 1999 Liberty Rx Sedan? My main objective is to make the car look better. I've herd there's places where they re-heat the springs and then they compress them....is this a good option? Thanks.

If you can afford Eibach or H&R springs, go with those. Great ride, looks aggressive, and performs very well. Not sure if there are Teins available for your model year (probably but I don't have enough knowledge). But yes, for the cheap option, some places do offer to re-set or heat up your stock springs and compress them down to the height you're after. While this is good for 3-6 months, it'll start to sag, lose spring rate, and cause your shocks to die a premature death. Some people will say it's ok for street use but I've done that on one of my previous cars and after having to replace the shocks twice, I threw out the springs and got new ones.

Do you recommend anywhere for me to go to get my car done? I live down Wollongong, but i'd be willing to travel up to Sydney..

Also do u have an idea of prices, as i couldn't find anything on the Eibach or H&R springs.

I drive an ''09 lib wagon which i use 5 days a week for work and carry around 250kg in the boot 24/7 + love driving through the hill at any chance i get
the standard suspension is ok but the rear just cant handle the added weight in the boot full time, and like you also wanted that lowered look.

I spent a fair bit of time looking at all different options for suspenion, coil overs or just spring replacment. As using the car mainly for work every day i didn't want anything too stiff but also couldnt be too soft! After looking at everything i ended up getting king spring low heavy dutys front and rear this dropped the hight all round appox 35-45mm (as low as STi pink springs) setting me back only $250- (springs only fitting +$$).

Driving around now is great, firm but not stupid and through the hills its real planted now.
dont get me wrong i've had tein hr coilovers in my silvia and bilstin coilovers in my skyline, you can never go past a set for adjustment, track use etc.
but for under the price of tein S tech spings i have heavy duty spings, white line rear sway bar and a car that now drives ace day to day and through the hills!
and fitting it all your self is just half the fun plus saves $$$

Bah coilovers.. when i owned my 04 Liberty GT, i lowered it on 2in fr and 2.5in rear using K-MAC springs, did alright
