Yeah, as Ben suggested there are companies that can unbrick your ECU.
Have you tried to just reflash it with eg a Tactrix, or is it totally dead? Because I wouldn't rely on the equipment of the tuner who bricked it.
Wreckers obviously have used ECU for sale, or you can buy new. Used ones will work as long as it's the same engine and Transmission (pre and post facelift being different ECUs). But since you're reflashing it anyway, putting eg an ECU from an Auto into a Manual should be fine as well, if the ECU Part# is the same. I can run VINs through the Subaru Parts catalogue if you'd like.
If you are going to buy new, I can highly recommend
http://www.Partsouq.com. Subaru Australia want over $2,000 for an ECU, but this overseas Parts specialist only charges US$867 for the same genuine Subaru Part. Postage has always been cheap and fast (at my door within a few days) whenever I've used them.
