I had a feeling about this but still blown away, regardless.

Nice to be reminded that we're lucky enough to live in a country where your tax dollar actually works for you!

Great work, Vic Pol! :)

So my lib has been ponging of burnt oil, it was driving me nuts!
I inspected the underside of the engine as the oil on the under cover revealed its the drivers side at issue.
Cleaned off all the oil off the block and header heat shields.
According to my local mechanic, the source can only be the cam cover or timing cover...
Timing cover was ok so I went for the cam cover seal replacement.
This took me about 4 hours on a hoist, but would go quicker with some shaved sockets and a gear drive ratchet.
Didn't do the 1/2 moons as they were fine & not leaking.

Still a bit smelly so I reinspected, some oil around the rack and front of the box so I nipped up the affected lower ps hose coupling and wiped, degreased and rinsed the area, all good now but will keep an eye on the area.
However I found the box's oil level was below the low mark, topped it up with some spare Syntrax, so the issue is related and will be sorted on clutch replacement. The clutch is almost gone, no chance of hectic acceleration in 4, 5 or 6.

Of course one of the head breather hoses cracked, meaning I have another inlet leak, so I'm tossing up going OEM via partsouq or just using gates heater hose, either way the TMIC has to come off, assuming an rtv and silicone tape repair job won't suffice.

I've started Cert III light automotive at Baxter Southbank, meaning I get up to 2.5 days per week of hoist time if available.
Under Baxters aegis I hope to complete all my basic mods, timing belt service and clutch replacement etc.
Very cool and everyone is much in awe of my rather modified (in some aspects) ride :P
They're all servicing stocko toyotas and holdens so my lib is a standout.

Alas I cannot do advanced stuff there like rebuilding my spare block, e30 diff or do engine swaps, so I'll revert to my local garage or specialists if the opportunity arises.

They have a lot of equipment, eg tyre changer & balance station, parts washers, diagnostic scope and most importantly for the Ljet E30, an exhaust gas analyser.
The Baur has an uneven idle, so planning replacing/refurbish injectors and leads, then set the idle and mixture using the analyser, should be fun.

I also raised my rear shocks 5mm for no more tuck, and I'm bringing the camber back closer to stock, whilst re-rolling my guards, to save my delicious new S001's bought on the Bridgestone/Donellans 3for4 deal: $680 for 235 40 r18 :)
They're much quieter than the Pzero Corsas, and I'd guess might have a wee bit less grip, but still a better choice overall for a daily. I'm using string alignment and an inclinometer phone app to get everything in order before getting it laser aligned.

Great news on the camera gear BBB, hope they caught the scumbags.

Think I spotted you near the corner of Gelnferrie and Riversdale today, was tricky to park!
I was waiting for the wife in the Op shop when I saw this very nice low Gen IV wagon with fat tyres and thought, that's looks a bit like one I have seen somewhere....

You can't go anywhere in this town!

Cheers!
Scumbags caught red handed!!!
Good spotto, probably the first reported sighting of my stealth wagen on this site :)
Yep we were in that op shop, where I scored a nice seersucker gazman summer shirt and another business shirt for $11 basically brand new.
I got better things to spend my brass on :P

It was our usual Sunday market trawl, Camby market was a bust alas, everything I wanted was overpriced so I went without.
Gotta hit Resa market next w/e for steel toecap boots ;)

Meanwhile I'm searching part numbers and prices for timing kits, cast impeller water pumps, oil pumps and master gasket sets. Celtic, partsouq and Amazon ftw!

Ha ha an eye for value, good stuff in there. My wife does some volunteer work in one closer to home and we have snaffled some good bargains in the last couple of years too.

By the time I worked out it might have been you I think you were in the car and off. Next time I'll say hello and check out the wheels.

Stealth?.. With those wheels and nicely low it looks excellent, slick black paint too. Nice bassy exhaust but not loud, wheels made me start thinking how mine would look with more fatness in the arches.....

It was only as we were doing our Sunday 10k walk from the city that I happened past, walking up Glenferrie from Gardiner's creek to get the train home. What's the odds?

Sounds like you have a fair bit on the plate with the old Lib, full engine rebuild? Better, stronger, faster!

I look fwd to your updates as it happens, I'm sure you will be all over it!

I'm also studying Cert IV Fabrication Engineering at Baxters North Melb workshop, basically setting myself up for a career change to automotive, building & construction etc.

The last few years it's been my focus so I took the opportunity to get these Certs gratis courtesy of the Gvt's upskilling program, which they recently canned.

So far I've done lotsa oh&s, cutting, measurements and oxy.
Next up is brazing, then oxy cutting :)

Working towards that indeed :)

Speaking of tuning, Matt very kindly installed his latest version of the postFL GT spec b Gentlemans tune for reliability and drivability.

As I recently changed plugs and front AF sensor, I was probably due for a touchup and upgrade :good:

I've had this tune for at least 3 years now and always look forward to its further refinement.
Some of the features include:

SI Drive 3 stage boost control, 7 (stock vf46 wastegate), 12 & 15 psi for each mode,

Sorted DBW angles (no more stalling in i-mode due to the stock drop in throttle angle). This allows the driver to seamlessly enjoy 3 boost levels without radical differences in throttle pedal feel, the car feeling linear and torquey in i, responsive in S and urgent in S#.

Throttle controlled boost, in addition to the ability to set max boost levels with SI drive, the throttle pedal controls the boost level up to that maximum point. Eg if you don't go WOT, you won't hit max boost in that mode.

These features simply make the driving experience more predictable and thus enjoyable, especially when one wants to transition between babying the car and giving it the beans.

The Gentlemans Tune for postFL now contains VFFT logic, currently dormant pending scaling.
This feature in addition to rescaling the stock AF sensor into something like a true UEGO WBO2, will sample the fuel in realtime, and adjust fuelling etc automatically for differing fuel octanes.

So I'm assuming very soon I'll be able to eg "run in" an e85/98 mix, change or upgrade the fuel filter/s and or fuel system then go full e85 eg on 12psi max (coyote style) and then go back and so on. Eg just to clean & flush the engine at the end of an oilchange interval.

From memory Flat Foot Shifing is available but not required in my tune.

Launch control is in there but won't be utilised until the weeks before my original clutch replacement (239klm lol).

Economy: pretty good, as low as 8 fwy, 15 in summer jams, average is 10-12, same as ever basically, it's a well used car :P

It's a great tune and I can't wait to get the car sorted so I can more fully enjoy it ;)

Having said that a Golf R recently failed to get past me on the Laverton inbound ramp.
Coming off the bridge onto the freeway on the outside lane to boot!
It's an opportunity to take it up to the legal limit, through some uneven apexes, whilst giving it the boot :P
I dun blveit myself, Shockworks and the tune allowing me to nail it through the bumpy off camber curves
