Subaru Liberty 2004 Manual EJ25

Postby Qamar » Sun Jan 03, 2016 12:42 pm

Hello everyone
My name is Qamar and I'm from Melbourne VIC. I'm new in this forum and its my first post, hoping to get my problem solved.
I have a 2004 Subaru Liberty manual transmission, I replaced the engine but the car is not starting now. Engine is EJ25. A red "key sign" flashes on the dashboard. Any experts out there to tell me something about it.
Thanks :D

(1) What replacement engine did you put in the car?
Is the replacement engine compatible with the ECU?

(2) the flashing Red Key is the immobiliser.
It flashes when the immobiliser is active.
It will momentarily extinguish when a key the immobiliser system recognises is inserted into the ignition barrel.
It will go permanent red if you insert a key the immobiliser system does not recognise.

How can I know that the engine is compatible with ECU, It was EJ25 and the replacement engine is also EJ25. One of my friends told me to replace the ECU and BDM and the key reader. I did replace all these but the problem is still same.
How can the immobiliser be deactivated?
And yes, when I try to start the car the key sign gets permanent.

*****sigh*****
What is the VIN Number of your car?
What was the VIN number from the vehicle(s) that supplied the donor engine and the other donor ECU parts. etc?

So you replaced the engine yourself?

If you swapped *only* the engine and nothing else then you wouldn't have had the immobiliser issue.

VIN of my car is : JF1BL9KJ35G010178
I swapped the engine with the help of my friend and we just swapped the engine, nothing else.

And my friend arranged the engine, so I have no idea about the other vehicle's VIN number :(
