hey all,

new to the forum as of today, and the fb page for about a week.

recent owner of my97 outback. and will be chasing inspiration and tech/mod info.

its my 4th suby experience. with my 1st being an old 70s 2 door coupe. 2nd '89 brumby. 3rd 99 foz miss it

my first 2 q's are: 1, am looking at replacing the well worn steering wheel. my spare parts guy cant find a listing referring to a boss kit for the outback, but can for the same year liberty through Autotechnica. will this fit?
2, am looking at lowering it, and have noticed some talk about " de lifting". what is required for this, and is it highly recommended ?
I lowered my foz using coilovers only, sat 30mm off ground at lowest point, and never had any issues with strain on cv's ect.

I have probably entered my questioning in wrong section of forum, but ask those to bear with me as I become familiar with this page.

I can answer Q1 - yes Liberty/Outback are the same (same car pretty much).

Q2 - not sure if lowering an Outback is "highly recommended" - I can only say you probably should have bought a liberty wagon in the first place, if you wanted to have a lower car.

I have seen outbacks dropped before.
know of one, owned by a foz colleague at the time, that was fitted with wrx wagon struts in rear, and coilovers up front. sat nicely, with no de lift kit.
its only recently I have noticed some asking/referring to the "de lift".
my forester was way higher at standard, then my current outback is, and had no issue with just coilovers to drop it.
no doubt I will further my search here, and become familiar with the term.

Pretty sure you can just swap the struts out. Try to find a set of bilsteins.

And with the steering wheel, a lot of gen2 owners replace the standard wheel with a momo from a gen2.

I believe he de-lifted his Gen4 outback..

Btw Louisa - De-lifting doesn't mean lowering, it means removing spacers etc which will return the 'lifted' chassis back to a standard height chassis (talking about the height between the driveline and the chassis).
