All great advice Mick!
I'm glad you got to me in time before I semi built an engine and would have no doubt run into the problems you're talking about.
I'm actually excited about the new short block now.. love the idea of having a new engine. As its timing belt time, even the belts and water pump will be new. And I need a new radiator so all will be fresh :-)

Thanks Mick and sorry Adam.

So sounds like you want a later model EJ257. I agree leave the block alone unless you are chasing the power and on top of that get the best/latest compatible model available.

I went down the full forged re-build path on my old wagon even when others advised for my goals I would have been better off with an unopened EJ207. In the end I never ran more than stock boost so it was a waste.

Really good information Mick, if only it was that easy to find the differences between the 255 and 257. I did a lot of googling and reading when I was going the new block for mine and all I could find really was that it was the same block with slightly different pistons and compression and a superior crank.

It would have been very helpful at the time for someone who knows exactly what the differences are like yourself and could point out the advantages like that. I didn't even think about tolerances from the factory on the two and just assumed that they would be the same

257 Ordered and on its way to MSR.
No changing my mind now!!

The young fella has decided he's a Subaru Liberty fan now too... He took it for a spin around the garage.
Of course he wasn't persuaded in any way

My little guy did the same thing yesterday funnily enough! How good is it to see them aspiring to our sickness :)

I've also decided to get a Prova style SI Drive cover made for myself. Gave up on waiting for Ben's one.. Sorry Ben!!.

Just knocked up a quick prototype in my lunch break today based on the Prova one. I have a 3D printer at work so can make a few test pieces for fitment. Might tweak it a little to make it slightly unique too.

What do you think?

Love it. Count me in for one if you decide to go to production.

Likewise. Maybe if we inundate Prova with emails they might consider putting it back in to production

Looks good Adam.

Didn't they say a few years ago when some people tried to get them to produce them again that they needed something like 50 orders minimum to even consider it?

Apparently they did say that. But good luck getting 50 liberty owners to want one haha
Much easier to make your own... and cheaper than the Prova ones.
Not taking orders at this stage though. I don't want to step on ben's toes. If Ben decides not to go ahead with his, i can get more made up for you guys.
