Turbo finally arrived today. The wheels after certainly a far nicer design than the original.

Nice

In the interests of research (and seeing as you have some know how), are you able to measure and confirm the exhaust housing combined a/r for both volutes? Perhaps also measure the rear wheel cavity dimension?

That way it may open up possibilities of grafting th twin scroll liberty style housing (which is unique from the jdm wrx Sti twin scrolls) to other turbos like the vf52/48/36/37/42/49/55/56 etc...

FYI: VF49 is a twin scroll VF48, JDM Twinscroll housing on the VF48 turbo

All rh5 turbos are same size (just different bearing setup)

If we replace the VF38 with one of these, just wondering will the car:
a. Need a tune immediately, tow it to your tuner
b. Drivable to the the tuner, but dont gun it there
c. Not really require a tune immediately but best to have one to get full benefits

Unfortunately this won't get any updates for three weeks. Leaving for Cape York on Friday in the trusty Patrol. It runs a td05 18G on 30psi on a 4.2 diesel and ran 86mph down the quarter all set up for touring. Lots of fun.

b. if you stay off boost and make sure all the hoses are tight.

To be safe, I wouldn't drive it unless you're 100% confident you understand when the car goes into medium or high load. Unless you're certain you can not only keep it off boost, but also ensure its in low load the whole time, then I wouldn't chance it

If it is not boosting/low boost of closed loop then there is no drama. The MAF sensor will pick up on any extra air going in and compensate. There will be hardly any difference in air flow at low boost anyway.

Back from road trippin'. Will put this back together next weekend. Parts I have sitting here are:

- td04 20t
- silicone inlet
- silicone throttle body hose
- DW300c fuel pump
- kido tune
- dump pipe

Really hoping to run a 13 second quarter mile with these simple mods. Will be disappointed if I can't. Time will tell.

Hey guys.
How long did it take for you guys to receive your turbo from kinugawa?
I've ordered mine about 2 weeks ago and still haven received a tracking number for the shipment so I sent them an email asking what's going on and they responded with "We are still getting the turbo ready, The tracking will be sent when the package is ready"

I thought these were already assembled and ready to ship.. hope its not going to be a month long event.

I had the same thing. Wrote nasty email and finally got date it will be sent. I think the scumbags must be making to order. Really screwed me over in regards to not having a car. Mine was delivered around 3 weeks after ordering from memory.

Just taking it slow as I have my own car and the Liberty is just for the Mrs but she's off work at the moment.

Yesterday I fitted the turbo. It was far from 'direct replacement' but simple enough to fit. I had to rotate the front turbo housing and flip the wastegate actuator as it no longer lined up. The water lines they supplied aren't a great fit so I reused the original ones, just had to cut the bracket between the two banjo fittings to adjust the spacing as it's different between turbos. The supplied oil drain was just a generic one so I filed the original one so it fitted and slightly elongated the bolt holes. I used the supplied oil feed as it was good. Turbo is now fitted in car.
That's all I've done so far. Sometime during the week I'll remove the inlet manifold to wash all the oil out of it and fit the silicone intake. Then it will just be putting the new fuel pump, going for a slow drive to check things, then loading on the tune kido sent me.
Also pulled the filter out of the banjo that feeds the turbo. That's a bugger of a job with the turbo support bracket in the way.
