Yup, I'm mainly stock except for a few odd items. But no, no dramas with the aftermarket piping. I'm running the twin centre pipes from K2 Gear. It's got a massive muffler instead of a resonator so it's keeping things pretty quiet. But the DP is complemented with a HKS boost controller and a Haltech Interceptor piggyback ECU.

I didn't do a before and after dyno so I couldn't tell you what sort of gain to expect from a performance DP. But like I said, it's not about the net kw gain. The responsiveness and torque gains are outstanding! I think people are too concerned about the numbers these days. Just do mods that make you happy and that improve on what you had previously.

Thanks Arith,

My questions are purely based around a safety point of view - could give a stuff about numbers either.

What I was curous of is whether boost spikes occur with stock ECU's and whether anyone has tested A/F ratios with stock ECU's and DP's.

All for more torque and response, but as long as its safe

I can tell you my boost spikes (Mainly in first) from standard 1 bar to 1.3 ish.

Boost controller should fix all that :D

Boxer, I already had a Haltech and the HKS EVC in place when I got the DP so I can't be of any assistance there.

But if you look around you'll see people like MY07GT who has had the DP with a stock ECU for over 2 years and has yet to have any sort of problems.

Unless you have a boost controller to manually increase boost, the stock ECU should keep boost at a relatively safe level.

Quick question Mike,
Is there a reason why you opted not to have a lip /splitter on this dump pipe?

Thanks,
Mo.

saterdays fitting only unless the car is left overnight during the week...sorry SYD guys only

Had a Phat DP fitted yesterday by Phats himself. DP looks great fitted up. Great job. Very very professional install.

His 2.5" and 3" flange sleeve for using stock or aftermarket exhausts is a great idea as well. Very very simple and smart design.

The guy worked all day Sat, on his day off to put two DP in. What a top guy, provides a great product, and does a top shelf install as well. Thanks Phats.

I guess the question everyone is waiting for is 'has it made a difference' and do you notice it?

i just installed my Phat DP also.. OMG the difference is big.. put a big grin on my face.. and love the new extra noise the turbo makes while spooling

I think however i may have a leak around the gasket on the back of the turbo. During the 3 to 5 rpm range i can hear this change in air flow sounding weird and hard to explain the noise on the forum.. but if someone wants to call me i can show u an example

i installed it myself and think i may have damaged the stock gasket while trying to wiggle it on and bolt in at the same time... never the less.. BIGG improvement and 100% happy with it

Great fitment. Looks really good with the ceramic coating.

Have only driven it a couple of time, so I guess the ECU is still learning. Don't know if it will make a difference but may do an ECU reset today.

First impressions are spools up a fraction earlier. Spools up faster. Pulls pretty hard from 3000 rpm. Pulls all the way to 6500. Premod, the car use to die off around 5500. Noticeable more torque and power all the way through the rev range. Much more noticeable mod then the TMIC. Together with the HKS panel filter, gives a nice induction note on acceleration. You can hear the turbo whine now. Also can hear a slight bov sound when backing off or changing gears. Sounds very subtle and I like it.

Wouldn't mind a bit more of a bov noise but not too loud. I had an STI bov in my Forester, and being tuned, that had a great subtle bov sound. Anyone got any suggestions or recommendations on bov?

If you want more BOV sounds then remove the resonator attached to the airbox. You will get plenty then.

Doing an ECU reset right now. Will see how it goes in the next few days. Was actually going better today when I went out to get some petrol before. Hoping the ECU learns a little bit more.

keen to hear how you go with this. I am going the reverse route and getting the lib tuned in stock mode first tonight! My Phat Dump Pipe is going on once it arrives and re-tuned to suit.
