Playing MP3s in McIntosh System

Postby 07GTWagon » Fri Sep 26, 2008 3:39 pm

Hi Fellow Libertarians,

Can anyone tell to how play MP3s on my McIntosh system.

I have tried everything. I'm using NERO to burn my MP3s but all l seem to get are error messages once the disk has been inserted.

I hope someone can give me some pointers on where l'm going wrong.

Cheers Michael

Silly question, but are you burning the MP3's as a data disk onto a CD or DVD?

I have actually tried both CDs and DVDs and still get the same error messages.

The question I think is the disk in DATA format, instead of the audio format.

Yes but if the disk was in an audio format, the head unit would treat it like a regular audio CD and still be able to play it, not give errors. Because Nero automatically converts MP3's into standard audio if you select your disk to be that.

I was just clarifying your question because I think he misunderstood it :)

Opps, sorry Cheesy. :D

The only way to truly test is to find another Lib and try out your MP3 CD's you created. If they work on there but not on yours, take it to a dealer for warranty work.

Hey Michael,

there's a few of us around Perth - maybe someone can give you a working MP3 disc to try out ?

Have you tried a different brand of CDR ? Sometimes the lasers have trouble reading certain brands.

Sorry for digging this up, but it might be worth asking...

Are you burning the disc in multisession mode? This leaves the disc "unfinalised", and you need a player capable of reading multisession discs or it won't work. You'll need to look for an option labelled "finalise this disc" or something that indicates it's closing the disc so that no more can be written to it if you want to make sure it's not a multisession CD.

OK, I'm usually pretty good with this sort of thing but I'm also having mp3 issues with my new MY09 Spec-B.
Stereo unit seems to work fine with standard CD's, so there is nothing wrong with reading a CD.
I have created a data CD, burnt mp3 audio files to it and closed the disc. So it should be compatible with anything. Disc works in my computer, and my stereo (dvd player).
BUT, when I insert the disc into the car, it comes back after reading the disc with a check disc error.
Anyone come across this before or have a solution?
I'm sure I'm just being stupid and missed something here, but for the life of me I can't figure it out today!!

You need to make an Audio CD using your mp3 files by using the correct software, I've used Nero and Toast.

Not a data disc

Not open

Not a dvd

IIRC... :P
