Postby Troy » Fri May 01, 2015 6:30 pm

Hi, noticed what appears to be a ground wire and metal floating around the passenger fire wall, it leads to the negative on the battery and is very thick, for the life of me i cant see where it has come lose.

On my Liberty, also an MY05 3.0R-B, the earth wire from the battery negative passes through a corrugated black plastic spiral wrap with other cables and is finally connected to a metal bracket clamped under one of the gearbox/bellhousing bolts. The metal bracket is located between the starter motor and the clutch slave cylinder.
Hope that this helps?

Side effects would include overheating (and possible damage) to all other earth cables between the body and the engine?
There would be required to carry the current that otherwise should flow through the main earth cable?

There should be braided earth straps from the rocker cover area (each side of the engine) to the vehicle inner guards. These straps are for stray currents to make your head gaskets last longer.
Best you check the condition of these. They may have been over stressed?

Was the engine a dog to crank on the starter motor?

checked everything else, those straps seem okay, look old but not burnt or anything.
it sometimes cranks too long and make a bad sound when starting, see how it goes now.
Im wondering why this wire was lose anyways.
Thanks heaps
