Cheers, iirc you've experienced the VIP GTBBB effect, next time you're in town you could step up to the Presidential!

Assuming its working.

Update: a S/H dizzy has been procured with the assistance of Monseigneur www.JesseStreeter.com.

Cant wait to hit this rig with the Festool!!!

Nothing done to the Lib last weekend apart from a wash and a few delightful drives.
I did check and tighten all the suspension nuts n bolts.

Whilst it was on the hoist the mechanics started getting critical with the road-worthiness aspect of the mods.
I said "bring it on, the whole point of the car is to be extremely safe, but fun and engaging to drive."

Coilovers: fail.
Wheel width: fail (maybe a pass because the tbSTi came with 7.5" rims stock)
Alloy suspension links: fail (maybe a pass because OEM/JDM)

Then general criticisms:
"I would have spent all that money making it go faster" A: well now its ready to go faster.
That zorst is as good as 2" all the way" A: we're already making around 150-160 atw, the stock muffs are good for 200 atw and the current setup sounds great without being tiring everywhere but WOT.
"Feel your tyres, they're scalloping because the suspension is too hard" A: Unconvinced: second hand tyres, run on 3 different sets of suspension, not too worried...

So I let my mechanic buddy John (at Little Sams Garage) have a drive.
He zipped around the block then said "get in, I'll show you how its done"...
nek minnit: race shifts and triple digit speeds.
"it handles well... nahhh 12psi is heaps... springs could be softer"

They so love to contradict themselves :P

In my experience, 90% of people don't know what they are talking about 90% of the time. How are the coilovers unrwc in victoria? wheel width - as you said, it's the widest the chassis came with +1, so as long as it's 8.5 or under you are ok. Alloy suspension links: This might get you - are they the same as on a tbsti? If not, then it's POSSIBLY an issue, but unless you pointed it out, I would be amazed if anyone picked it up - it's certainly not unsafe.

As to how to modify a car - there is one person who determines what is and isn't a priority - and that's the owner! I would have done things differently to you, but then it wouldn't be your car - this is actually one of the things mighty car mods gets very right, screw other people, it's your ride. It's good to get opinions, especially of people who know and have been there and done it, but ultimately it's for you and is an expression of your needs and desires. It's actually one of the things I love about the lib forum here, despite all being basically the same car, and recipe for power/handling being very similar, some very different cars have been built.

Agreed, the guys wouldn't tolerate my car if everything wasn't sorted and the upgrades certainly have made it safer.

Needs that sub amp job though... It's just getting nice at 40

Oh, I want it too, but I'm absolutely 100% at the moment - our current foster child (who has ASD and cerbebral palsy) may or may not be staying with us forever or moving to Toowoomba (in a non ideal situation) forever sometime between 1 week to a few months from now, so we are stressed and busy just dealing with the issues around that.

.. I love the president though! Nothing is quite the same as a classic cruiser.

No idea about the promo, apart from... I'm driving!

Maybe here: http://www.crumpler.com/au/rooftop ? Run and won???

The drop-down passenger seat back in the Pres is so back seat passengers can stretch their legs out!

We are definitely in the market for embroidered antimacassars if anyone has an inside line on those...

Basically doilies for seat backs and headrests...

Damn looks like it's already been drawn :'(

I think if you visit the oldest looking op shop you can find you'll get some fine antimacassars

I was perving at a Pres on Yahoo.jp and it was literally dripping with antimacassars!

There are some seriously dope Presidents out there...
A UK based fully bagged hopper, various Vippers in J.

I'm even more partial to the earlier H250 and H150, the latter of which was dropped, full of Yakusa, into a lake by a Kawasaki Vertol twin rotor in one of the Connery Bond films. <edit> its a Toyota but almost there...

Shockworks for E30 is happening!
They're setting up a track racer with KW coilovers and will get the base measurements from that configuration.
The prototypes will be tuned on our stock Baur 323i as is their usual approach.
Bruce had the suspension sorted with new front dampers and, whilst it has the stock 4 finger arch gap, it rides like a dream.
So as usual the aim will be to take nothing away from that ride, just improve it.

I might have "fixed" the Pres!
It was cutting out after 20 minutes of driving and would then get more intermittent stalls, or no start till properly cold...
I removed the fuel filter and blew out the crap. No change.
The local garage diagnosed "no spark" = broken, smaller than your hair, wire in the ignition module, hall sensor or optical crank sensor in the dizzy...
Replacement dizzy ordered via http://www.JesseStreeter.com coming via EMS.
In the meantime I got zapped by the leads on the dizzy...
This usually means a cracked lead or dizzy cover. So good to have a replacement on the way. :)
To be sure, I draped blacks over the bonnet so I could see any arcing in the dark: nope.
Whilst I was poking around I noticed that the coolant temp sensor was all gunked up with dry coolant from a recently blown engine to radiator hose, so I pulled the plug, scraped the contact clean with my key, gave it a lick of spit and reconnected it. Voila! No more stalls... Well fingers crossed pending a test drive.
I'll follow up with emery paper and maybe some dialectic grease to be sure...
Next up is going nuts on the scratched peeling paint with the Festool and plenty of ceramic polish :)
I might finish up with some Concours ptfe sealant :good:

The Lib is going back to Shockworks for a day so they can test drive it in order to finalise the BP wagon damper code for production. Atm they revalve the sedan shocks in Monbulk, so this last step will have the wagon dampers being done from the manufacturer. International distribution could be on the cards... :)

No joy, still conking out :(
Hope it's just the dizzy and not the IACV or something even more obscure :P

Nothing but enjoying the Lib, its just a delight after driving 2x 30yo classics.

The Baur's handbrake handle was on it's last straw, bent like a banana after I forgot to be gentle with it.
No luck with a replacement via FB or Gumtree, I finally caved and visited Jolly's Pull a Part yard in Dandenong.
I wish I'd visited earlier!

Nice working conditions too with the cars all stacked 1 1/2 steeelies high on an enormous concrete apron.
The donor was a '85 318i 5mt, so I went nuts on it.

An hour or so later with Her Ladyship handing me tools and shading me from the sun, I had the handbrake, lhs indicator & trim plugs, a mint 5mt shifter assy, light switch panel, newish looking fuel filter and 2 complete wiper arms for $115 total.

Once home, half of that gear was in the car within one hour :)

Once the shifter assy is installed she'll be completely roadworthy again, and is already, at last, looking complete at the front end, barring the soon to be replaced valance.
