I actually dont mind them to be honest. Sure they are firm, and you do ride every undulation but it's not as rock solid as I was thinking it was going to be. Either that or my old shocks were that stuffed that I thought it was normal. haha

Im still tossing up whether or not to up the rear sway to a firmer setting. Reckon there is room for tweaking there.

I'm glad you don't mind the ride. Lowered springs are firmer for good reason so it's a small price to pay. I didn't mind them in my last car at all.

When are you planning to fit the headers and re-tune?

MSR will fit the headers the same day he does the tune. About 2.5 weeks.
Fitted the turbo blanket on the weekend. Doing the fuel pump this weekend. Then I'll do the cold air intake once the pumps in as it'll be running rich and will help counter the CAI making it leaner.

Ah ok nice, I'd be very interested to know what you think of the headers as I'm contemplating getting them myself

Well I'll be sure to let you know. I went for UEL so it'll be top end gain mostly... hopefully it'll be visable on the dyno sheet :D
I'll get the new Dyno sheet laid over the previous to show the difference.

Adam, I think you'll find that EL gives top end gains, not UEL

That's interesting Owen.. MSR is telling me the opposite. I'd prefer if they gave better mid range though so I hope you're right.

This is for FA20, but you get the idea.

Yep. No disputing that graph.
How can MSRs tests get the opposite result I wonder?? Could it be the brand?

Oh well, I'll be happy with either result :D

Perhaps you misheard? I vaguely remember MSR telling Bruce not to go EL as well, which has always confused me. People speculate a lot over the Internet, however I have numerous counts of real world comparisons to prove that EL is by far superior in every way.

That Tomei graph shows gains on a untuned NA FA20. With tuning, you can remove that flat spot. Another myth is that EL induces extra lag. ANY aftermarket header will induce lag until they heat up. Make sure you ceramic coat/wrap them which will help keep them hot.

No didn't mishear, he even does a write up on his website which talks about how he did back to back testing. I posted that paragraph as a new thread for you to see today.

I did end up getting it ceramic coated... MSR insisted on it.

I actually went and read it after I posted. He does mention to go EL for bigger than standard turbos.

All you need to remember is that the more efficiently the air travels through your system, the easier/more power you'll make. That's the whole point of getting rid of resonators, cats, corrugated intakes etc (anything that causes a restriction or turbulence). UEL headers were Subaru's way of cutting costs. They weren't designed like that for performance (which is also why all JDM models got EL headers)

You guys are missing one important aspect of the header upgrade. Adam is up-sizing his exhaust manifold - regardless of the shape. It's around a 15kw+torque gain all around, albeit with more lag in spool, again - regardless of shape.

Here's MSR testing back to back the after-market headers EL vs NEL. The results between the two IMO are negligible, so just go for whatever sound you enjoy more. It's getting rid of the stock headers that ultimately makes the most difference.
