'Bokeh' is the word for the really blurry, out of focus bits. So my blurry bits are swirly. Lomography is photography using strange or unconventional cameras that give weird or vintage effects eg. holga, diana, pin-hole. So the effect and/or method to achieve the effect is very similar to lomography.

Also shav, stalked your flickr a little and you got some very good shots for a beginner. I like the one with the stairs leading to the beach as well as the shoot-through with the strange head thing

I started with just my phone and watching youtube videos on how to get the best from my phone alone. Then when I could afford it, I bought a decent entry level DLSR. But if you can't be bothered that's fine. It gives photographers more more work which in a sense is good.

That's a good idea shav although the camera on my phone is terrible, my sister has a pretty decent dslr so might just pinch that if I want to take some good photos :)

yeah my wide angle lens gives out the same boken swirl. i like it.
hence some landscape photos are better shot in a 35mm or something narrower and just stitch them together post production.

Awesome, which 35mm though? Canon? 1.2 or is it achievable with 1.8? Would love to invest in primes but I really want the 70-200 2.8 ii next. Can get so many mods and maintenance done with the amount of money though lol.

I picked up a Nikon DX prime lens f1.8 35mm for under $200 delivered new. Great for heavy DOF shots and macro. Not the highest quality but still very good.

My guess is, look on ebay or gumtree for some second hand lenses. Cheaper than buying new and if you dont like it, you can get a lot of your money back when you resell it.

Oh right. lol. Yeah they are handy for close up work. I recently worked with a quality 30mm F1.4 and the quality difference in shot was hugely noticeable. The price difference was the killer though at $700 for the lens alone. Awesome lens though and the I could tell the colors on the shots was richer also.

no i said my wide angle gives off swirly bokeh which is why its not good for landscapes. thats why i need a nice 35mm that doesn't distort the bokeh. not that id take a landscape in a low f/stop. the higher the f stop the better for me. or even focus stacking at like f5.

man you don't realise how much you've learnt until you start spouting stuff off haha.
