Alarm from engine bay

Postby blackfair » Sun Feb 15, 2015 4:52 pm

Haven't had much luck googling for what an alarm from the engine bay means in my 2005 2.0 Liberty. Information also absent from manual so turning to hopefully some friendly people here to help?

Back story, girlfriend been driving car, said she had some vibration from the steering wheel when stopped at lights before car was warmed up. Next day car struggles to start and then dies. When I get round to taking a look the car does start up, but its pretty rough, there's some tapping noises and in general sounds pretty sick. It does clean up though after idling for a while as I'm poking around. The one thing that does persist the whole time is an uninterrupted alarm sound from the engine bay (rather than cabin). Nothing on the dash indicating a problem.

Does this mean anything to anyone?

Cheers

Sounds like you may have a faulty battery and/or a faulty alternator. If you have a battery back up alarm siren, when the voltage gets low, it will set the alarm off. Also cutting out/running rough are symptoms of low voltage. I would check the charge rate with the car running and have the battery tested.

Thanks for the response.

I put a battery booster on the car and it didn't change the symptoms. Car has continued to clear itself up though and seems to be okay again. Mechanic checked the car and found a fault code to do with thy key but otherwise car didn't misbehave for him.

So pretty inconclusive end to the process.
