Another Wannabe

Postby Reidy » Mon Feb 16, 2015 2:46 pm

Hey everyone,

I've been a bit of a lurker while looking for a Liberty. I still haven't found one because I'm too fussy so I thought I'd say hello anyway.

I've been looking for the car that unfortunately lots of people seem to want. An MY08 (for the back seat arm rest, rear vents and electric passenger seat) Liberty wagon manual around 100,000kms. There was an STI recently that was listed for 32k (overpriced?) and sold a few days after breaking my heart.

Are there any other differences between MY07 and MY08?

Anyway, it's great seeing all your cars, advice and walkthroughs.

Cheers
Reidy

your right about the diffrence of the my08 is what you have mentioned(not sure about arm rest) the seat can be swapped over not 100% sure if you find an 07 you like
as for rear vents no idea on that one :)

Hi Reidy

I believe all post facelift (MY07- MY09) GT and 3.0R's came with rear vents. No rear vents in the NA2.5's or any pre-FL. Hope you find something decent soon.
cheers, David

No, the OP is correct. The 07 GT(B) wagon has cup holders at the rear of the centre console for the rear seat passengers.
The rear seat doesn't have a "ski port" or centre arm rest.

The "cosmetic" changes for the 09 were rear vents, rear centre armrest (with cup holders) and electric passenger seat.

Not deal breakers if you can find a really good 07 model - but definitely nice improvements.

Looks like I might be getting a Liberty soon.

I'm thinking of getting;

Subaru weather shields
Cargo 12v socket kit
3d mats (maybe?)
A tune for reliability (economy as well?) as I've read the factory tunes are rubbish. I'm not chasing power but would be welcome.
Cabin filter replacement

Any ideas on sourcing these?

Thanks

As for tune, speak to Matt McLeod (KiDo). You'll find him on heaps of threads / Facebook.

07 sedan might have armrest on "ski port", but not the 07 wagon. 60/40 split, but no port or armrest.

Hi Guys,

Looking at insurance at the moment and I'm tossing between AAMI and RACV. I've looked at a few others including Coles. I'm under 25 so it makes it more difficult.

Got a quote from both both are pretty similar in terms of excess, and insured amount. AAMI is cheaper by about $125. Coles was about $300 more and $1000 more on the insured amount.

Who would be the best to go with?

Do I need windscreen cover?

I'm in nsw. I'm with nrma, our version of racv. With nrma, windscreen cover is all glass cover. Sunroof, side, rear, the works. I reckon it's worth the $50 per year on the premium for what it covers

Don't forget that these cars are built like Lego. Any features you don't have you can easily pick up and swap yourself from a wrecker. For example, my MY08 2.5i was the "safety" model that only came with cloth seats, so I replaced them with leather seats from a wrecked MY06 GT.

Until you build your history and your No Claim Bonus, go with whoever can provide you the cheapest insurance. When you get your quotes, jack up the excess to the highest possible amount to reduce the Premium. Remember that in the event of an at-fault total-loss accident, the excess will come out of the payout figure, not your pocket. And if you aren't at fault, then there's no excess at all anyway.

Never EVER do a Market Value policy. You are just shooting yourself in the foot just to save a miniscule amount of money on the premium.

Personally, I'm with AAMI. I figured Coles would be cutting too many corners to be able to beat my current insurance price - last year I paid $300 for full comprehensive with agreed value. This year it went up to $380. My policy has maximum excess and maximum NCB applied, but I'm also over 35 and have been with AAMI for while now earning me about 20% loyalty discounts which helps a bit.

Unless you plan to follow trucks and caravans across dirt roads a lot, for the most part, no.

The windscreen insurance is certainly a lot cheaper than buying your own windscreen outright, so if any damage you do sustain is not significant and can wait until next year, add the windscreen insurance on then and get your windscreen replaced then. Some insurance companies also allow you to add-on the windscreen insurance mid-year with no penalty as well. Just ring them up and ask questions - there's no penalty for asking about what-if scenarios.
I was going to procrastinate, but I put it off...
