Goodyear Eagle F1 Directional 5 tyres cost $249 per corner. I have these in 235/40/R18 on stock rims

Did you have any scrubbing issues at any time?
I was wanting to go to this size on stock Post facelift 18s but was worried about scrubbing and handling issues...

Your thoughts please?

As noted above, stock rims are 7" wide - and I'd never put 235 width tyres on 7" rims - some tyre places will also flat-out refuse to do so. 225 is the widest I'd go on 7" rims. 235s belong on 7.5" or 8" wide rims.

I have 235 width tyres on my 7.5" wide wheels, no issues with scrubbing. Given the rolling diameter is the same as it'd be on an 18" wheel/tyre combo, you shouldn't have any scrubbing issues as long as you have reasonable offset wheels (mine are +55s, most people try to aim for lower offsets, but I've been told that +45 on 7.5" wide rims won't cause scrubbing either.

I see some of you discussing different diameters, are you guys doing this while keeping the rear stock or changing them all to be the same?

My stock is 215/45/R17 so 225/45/r17 sounds not like a bad idea if it make handling a bit more tight. Currently it's really light which feels premium and good but I'm afraid of the safety factor. It's just very sensitive.

This has been covered in another thread already. The tyres fit fine, no scrubbing or issues after 30K and was recommended by the owner/mgr of Goodyear who had fitted these particular tyres to 7" rims previously without any problems. The tyres are probably better suited to a 7.5" or 8" but like I said no problems. They are the closest match to original RD of any other tyre size and are nice and wide so look good and grip well and protect the wheels. Not sure how they would perform on a track though. A different model tyre in same size may cause issues. The fitter was confident for this model of tyre as these have a less aggressive sidewall profile than some other tyres which may otherwise cause scrubbing.

Ideally, I'd like to go to 235/45/18 to get the speedo closer to accurate. I wonder how this size tire would go on factory 7 inch wide Spec B rims.

The factory spec rubber has the speedo showing 118 when doing real speed of 110.
It's the most inaccurate speedo i've ever seen in a car i've owned

The size i listed above would make it 113 speedo (for 110 real) from what i can figure

I think you will find 235/40/R18 is the closest you will get. I remember checking at the time but that was a long time ago.

My 225 bulge enough as it is on my Spec B rims now. It would just be more prominent with 235s. I personally wouldn't do it.

Fitting a 235/40-18 on a 7" rim is not a good idea.

It can be clearly seen by that pic that the tyre is too wide for the rim. Yes, it is close to the stock rolling diameter but, as mentioned, a 225/45-18 will bring the speedo error down. Ideally a 235 is for an 8" rim and the 225 should really be on a 7.5" rim.
If that fitment was recommended by a tyre store manager, then I would be seeking a second opinion as it sounds to me like he had some excess stock. A good mate of mine (who has been a tyre wholesaler for many years and regularly competes in motorsport) tried a 225/45-17 on his WRX and after 300km removed them as he noticed the car would 'tramline' and that the steering was not as direct. Fitted 215's in the same tyre and all went back to normal.

RX I was the one who asked for a wider tyre and wanted to match the factory RD so I was the one that suggested it, not the store manager. When he suggested that tyre I questioned it to make sure he was totally comfortable in fitting it and he was. Do you really think he wants me bringing it back after the tyre comes off and I have had an accident? Anyway as to not take up more time in this thread I will say again (from the person who is actually running these tyres) is that they are fine! 30,000Ks, some very spirited driving and even wear is proof. I am not saying people should run these tyres just sharing my experience. I would not hesitate to get them again although next time I may try something different as you don't get to change tyres that often .

what size tyre? If you are running 16's or 17's you should be able to get Kumho's for that price. If 18" it will be harder to get decent rubber for that price.

Settled for 215/40/18 Falken 453 on a 7" rim. Happy with the dry grip, and havnt had enough wet driving to fully comment but think its pretty good. Pretty quiet tyre too.

I have that tyre on my car now in a 225. Agree on the grip levels.
