Nearly everything is in here to start with.
If it's about your car, or Subaru's in general, put it in "Subaru Chat".

In Regards to the DMF problems in the 2.5L

Postby GhettoGX » Thu Sep 11, 2008 5:51 pm

i took my GX (2L) to get a couple of things done to it that i wasnt happy with, while there i got them to source this noise that sounded like a baby chicken chirping when i tapped the go pedal...

The mechanic instantly stated its the DMF. He said it needed to be replaced, but they didnt have any in stock.

The other items got fixed and tha service manager told me he would have to put in a request to Subaru to see whether they will cover it under warranty. (FYI - 3Gen MY02 GX 2L)

I was of the understanding that this problem was isolated to the 2.5L but apparently its just DMF in general.

What do all of you think i should do here if Subaru wont foot the bill as New car Warrenty is obviously expired, however, its still under the 3 Month just purchased warrenty in which everything is covered.

Kinda worried im gonna get stuck with a $2k bill to fix my car i bought 2 weeks ago!
I Swear to God officer my Cruise Control was Stuck!! :D :D

If it is the DMF.. it will be more than $2k.. (the flywheel alone is ~$1600)

Where abouts are you based? If you need a new flywheel, go to a solid unit.. Sachs make them (among others) and they cost <$500 make sure you get a lightened one though other wise you will end up with a very different feeling car :)

Or trundle down to the wreckers and pickup a DMF

DMF's are used to allow for a smoother pickup and reduced loading onto the bottom end of your engine and your box, so if your prone to slapping the gears, spend the extra and get a DMF.. if you take care of your car and are gentle of the gear changes, solid flywheels are fine..
