Update: I changed over the USB charging cable to the original one which came with the Nexus. I'm now getting an average charge of around 800mA from my 2.1A USB cig lighter plug. This is up from an average of about 300mA using the other cable (which, ironically, was twice as thick!). With the UCA202 connected, wifi, BT, GPS all on, Torque, navigation and Car Dashdroid all activated, I am now getting a charge - albeit slow - about 1% every few minutes. Now thinking I might be able to get away with upgrading to a 2.4A USB plug - if I can get 1% charge per minute that should be sufficient?

Can anyone in Melbourne install Timur's rom for me on a N7 2013 running stock Android 5.0? I've tried multiple times reading the very confusing guides posted online but they are all outdated/inconsistent and have steps missing. Even Timur himself emailed me with further instructions which I couldn't follow. Please PM me if you can assist. Will pay cash.

monkey - just wondering if you paid for timur's rom?

after googling for a while, it seems like its only available for download if you donate €25

anyone know of any alternatives for nexus 7 gen 2 (2013)

i havent commited to buying a tablet yet cause im not sure if i should go nexus 7 2012 or 2013 version

autodroid seems like its only available for 2012 so i might end up going for one of those just to lower costs on both tablet and rom

It's pretty easy mate.
Try this tool, seems to have some good reviews.

As for ROMS, for the 2012 you have Timurs or Autodroid. (I'm using Autodroid).
For the 2013 you only have Timurs (paid) or update lollipop, then root and install various apps.

Yep, paid for it. Personally I think €25 is cheap to enable its functionality.
I would say definitely go the Nexus 2013 for 2 reasons - (1) twice the RAM = faster & better future proofing; (2) higher res screen.

EASY???  For a software engineer maybe! Next to a constitutional law exam, this is about the hardest thing I've ever attempted!

I'm trying it for the 2nd time and Timur's instructions are much clearer than when I attempted 6 months ago, but I'm still hitting dead ends.

Yeah im leaning towards the Nexus 2013. Pretty hard to track one down these days tho. Might have to buy 2nd hand from ebay or gumtree. With your current setup on lollipop, what features are missing that require Timur's rom?

Mainly fast charging and deep sleep/wake (Fixed Installation [FI] mode) for when not powered I think.
And once v3.0 is out of beta stage and available for public release, it should support reversing cameras: https://timur.mobi/timurs-kernel-n7-2013/
re: N7 2013 - Maybe call some rural Dick Smith / Harvey Norman stores - they might have old stock?

I managed to upgrade to Timur's kernel! Wooooo :D :D :D
Took me 2hrs though, kept hitting dead ends trying to find ADB Windows drivers. My computer skills are reasonably advanced and this was hard, so I def wouldn't recommend a novice attempt it! Sorry for all the spamming of this thread, and thanks to those who responded.

Easiest way to have ADB drivers installed is to just install the Android SDK.

As for guided software, I've had really good success with Skipsoft's Nexus Toolkit for all my Nexus devices.

DAB and FM signals / frequencies are different and DAB requires a stronger signal. Doubt you could hook up to the existing antenna. Also, neither the D-Link article or the Google Play App actually mention radio or DAB, so not sure if that functionality is included. We'll probably pay double for it when it hits Oz :(
