Luxury car tax in the news... good news

Now i dont know about you guys, but why were they collecting money before it was even passed through?. doesnt make sense.

The new charges were ment to be brought in at the end of Fiancial year. So places like Porsche etc went crazy with sales becasue you were instantly saving money on your own road costs.

Law wasn't actually brought in, but obviously some dealerships started passing on the costs. I guess to most people, they we've seen on the news it was coming into effect from a certain date & just assumed everything had switched over etc.

same thing happened in my industry with the "alcopop tax"
don't think we'll be seeing our money back though....

LCT has always been a dumb tax, but this was a wasted opportunity to reform it. Rather than voting it down, the legislation could have been amended to slug inefficient, high emissions cars, rather than just everything over $57k. Poor form.

Funny - was my same comments to the missus tonight. Opposition just used the poor farmer as the reason to scrap it.

Well why not fix it to target the right buyers/vehicles and hit it hard!

They had no choice, the government told them to collect it on the assumption the law would be passed. It's much easier to give the money back than to try to get it after the car has been delivered
