Back seat belt warning chime - help please

Postby Tien GtB25 » Wed Nov 26, 2014 7:39 pm

Help people.

I got a baby seat in the passenger at the rear. Everything was fine until couple of days ago the red light warning start showing up saying that the passenger in the back seat is not wearing seat belt.

The sound is annoying and it started only recent. It driving me crazy.

1- anyone know how to turn this off ? A empty baby seat for Christ sake.
2- will this be a problem in an accident situation with regards to airbag deployment if it is turned off assuming it can be done ?

Apologise if I have not search hard enough for the solution.
Thank in advance.

In the pre facelift there is no chime on the rear seats, just an indicator where the rear view mirror is. If it is the same for your post facelift then it wouldn't be the rear seat.

Have you been putting items on your front passenger seat heavy enough to trigger that chime?

Hi Seanmau5

MY Liberty is a My07 Gtb2.5 Post facelift with indicator near rear view mirror and :angry2: chime.
The baby seat in in the back seat directly behind the front passenger seat. It stop doing it this morning but i gotta a feeling it will come back.

I think there a fault somewhere as the chime was not long and continuous... but rather intermittently.
The chime was so annoying...... i nearly pull over and wanted to punch something to shut it up.

Mines MY07 post 2.5t specb and has the display on overhead console/map light. I've disabled my chime but am also fairly sure that there is no seat occupancy sensors on the rear seat. Only knows if buckle is in. ie will show green display for the corresponding buckled belt in the rear, or no display when none rear buckled. Is up to the driver to notice that there is someone sitting in the back and the green light is on therefore meaning the occupant has buckled up.Red display on left is front pass seat if weight on it and not buckled.. If none of the display are lit up, could very well be the drivers seat buckle. Move it around next time the noise comes.

Just an update.

Turn out it wasn't the back seat at all.
It the front passenger seat.... one kiddi school bag set it off. :angry2: OMG.
my question still

- if I disconnect the passenger front chime connection,... will this effect the air bag deployment ?

Thanks in advance.
Tien.

Haha easy fix.

Can't answer your question.

But yeah, that chime is really annoying. Even if you get out of the car whilst its ringing, it'll continue despite the fact you're out of the car.

Is the chime a small speaker hidden somewhere ?
Can someone tell me where it is? ... I'm going to smash the shitz out of it.

I remember when I set mine off for the first time because I had my lunch box on it for work. Scared the sh*t out of me until I realized it was the front seat belt chime. I just make sure I don't have anything heavier than a jumper sitting on it. I don't mind it still being operational because I sometimes have lazy front seat passengers who don't put on their seat belt. Scares the crap out of them too when the chime goes off and basically doesn't make me look like an old fuddy duddy.
Cheers

pop down to your subaru dealer and get them to turn it off in the body settings. That way all still works, but no beeping.
