So I changed the mufflers...completely different sound and note. drone is gone, excess noise is gone. nothing to do with tune, nothing to do with resi. It was the muffs

What mufflers did you swap with? So you still have the mid pipe and y pipe?

Yeah until I worked out a way of fixing the drone.

Been in a certain late model Audi V8? No noise, maximum power with minimal muffler size ;) Energy cannot be created or destroyed(quoted from a fellow who has knows a thing or 2 about energy) so yes, efficient productive use of energy is able to make the sound 'right' not just 'quieter' hence not wasted energy.
Proven in Newcastle and Gosford last week, few cars that struggled to climb the hill out of Gosford heading to Sommersby Freeway in 5th gear, noise was atttrocious and had SFA torque to 'pull' up the hill. 5th gear in 3 MY11 WRX's now pulls happily from 1500rpm uphill struggle free. Strangley enough, one owner has already commented that his highway fuel economy has almost doubled it mileage over its previous tune and it is now drone free

Its almost like me claiming that a tune can improve the braking performance? Stronger inlet manifold vacuum giving stronger brake booster vacuum.

alexeiwoody wrote:Wow, you never made my exhaust quieter back in the day  you even commented about the drone being horrible after the tune.
I like this new "kido sales" - 200% talk for 20% results. I've never seen a v8/v10 mustang not use 4 big mufflers, but rely on tuning instead to meet roadworthy levels of dB. And those pro drag cars....if only they weren't so loud, they'd be so much faster, right?
80% of the results still come from the hardware. If you need a quiet exhaust, put some mufflers on there.
The noise you're hearing can also be attributed to having more freedom for flow in the exhaust - result of less restrictions and therefore power potential. Exactly the opposite of the kido pitch about "wasted energy".
(It is also possible to get fairly close to maximum flow potential and keep it quiet with a proper exhaust setup.)
The tune attributes a very small part to this....
Perhaps you should tell your customers this before making it sound like you can make a no mid muff 3" TBE sound quiet with just a tune... :alcoholic:

I sort of understand what you're saying Kido. I think they just didnt suit my set up though. they'd be fine for others maybe

I also sold mine off in the end. Just too damn loud.

Instead fitted 2013 wrx quads. Loving the look and much quieter. Still want to book you in when you're in Perth Matt to see what you can around the 2500-3000 range, it's still a little annoying haha.

I'm in the same situation as you guys here :nea:
Just got them delivered a few days ago. Now I'm worried after reading all your posts about the mufflers being too loud :(
Just can't get them on yet as I found out that I also need a tune after installing TBE and I can't do this untill Matt visits Sydney

See how you go, I've heard the newer version of the Invidias are more quiet. Also you've got the 2.5 litre engine right? probably very different sound and note to the 2 litre.

Don't stress too much about the tune, still do it asap but honestly. I upgraded headers, turbo, cooler, intake, boost control, turbo back invidia and moped it around for about two months before I got my first tune. The ecu will compensate to an extent. Just don't flog it lol or you'll fuck it ha. Some may say this is bad advice but it's true

Interesting. It's one of the first things I noticed. If it's still too loud, you'll need to consider fitting a resi.

Funny you say that, that's the first thing I did. I fitted an extra 15" resonator right behind the existing 10". Not a lot of difference at all. A waste of $200 really. It's the mufflers ay, they're just plain loud. Not enough baffling

You're right Cody :nea: They're bloody loud. But hey, turns a lot of heads right? :D

I'd hate to say it but kiddo might be right, a tune could help with the sound. I think more power would generate more air speed, which in turn could change the sound. I don't know how much though

Riddy, how much better does your exhaust note sound post tune? Does it not sound 'happier' across the rev range? Minimal drone on cruise?

To be completely honest I would say I did notice a change in noise to the better. Nothing too dramatic but yes it does sound better even when cruising. On WOT However, it's pulling like a beast. Again, thanks Matt! :D

For those of you who have/seen this exhaust, how hard is it to get tip fitment looking good. Guys in US seem to have never ending issues with it rubbing/melting bumpers. Also is length alright since its designed for US cars with the longer rear bumpers?

Tossing up between this and a tcp one if i can ever manage to get hold of him :/
