Tom,

So the ST3501021020 part is good for an 08 gtb 6mt for sure? The extra bush you fitted obviously didnt come with the kit? The picture on AVOJDM is a bit dark, but it almost looks like there is a bush on the rear of the lever assy...

thanks

Yeah absolutely - I also have a 08 GTB 6sp Man Wagon. These short shifters fit all post-facelift manuals I believe (the pre-facelift have a different short-shifter due to being 5sp). This Part# has been mentioned earlier in this thread (and elsewhere on the forum). And I had Adam at Tuspeed.com where I bought mine from to double-check it for me. So it's the right one - the only original STi short shifter for our 6spds.

No, the extra bush didn't come with my kit. My assembly came in an original STi box. The bush is a stock non-STi part that was on my car from factory, and holds the rear of the shift assembly. My car has 150,000km and the rubber felt a bit loose, so I decided to replace it.. But looking at the picture posted on the last page by GTB Liberty, you're right - it looks like it's part of that STI kit picture  . It's on the far RH side. There's not much to this bushing - the outside is a U-shaped metal bracket, the whole inner block is rubber. But I wonder if there is a Subaru part for this that's a bit stiffer?? :D .

I've just answered my own question: the STi uses the same bushing as my car had - 35036AA010 :clapping: . Phew! Because I would've pulled it out again and replaced it with an STI part, if that wasn't the case.

This is the Parts Diagram (link below) of an STi 6sp. The diagram lists all the individual parts of the shifter, whereas we would buy the assembly as a kit if we did the conversion. But you can see Item #39 on the STis is the same as what I had stock in my GT SpecB. I don't know if non-SpecBs use the same bushing, but someone else can look that up if they are interested.

That still doesn't answer the question if the bush should come with the kit. Mine didn't, so I suggest waiting until you get it and then going to the dealer for the bush if you feel your original one is a bit worn.

Tom,
Thanks for the response . Can I ask why your sig says 2008 gtb, but at the bottom of your post it says 2009...?

thanks

No problem. Mine is a 2008 MY09 model. So it was built in 2008, but it's the MY (Model Year) 2009.
At some point every year, the factory start making next year's model (I think the cut-off is Sep??). There isn't a big difference between the 08 and 09 (if at all). But when they introduced the facelift to the Gen4 GT, the engine + gearbox changed (Manual anyway - from 5sp to 6sp), different headlights/bumpers/interior etc...... Anyway, that happened in 2006. So those that have a 2006 MY06 model, have the old pre-facelift model. Those that have a 2006 MY07, have the newer post-facelift model. So two cars can be built in 2006, but very different. And same when the new Gen5 shape was brought out. There are 2009 cars that are still Gen4s (MY09), and there are 2009 cars that are the totally different Gen5s (MY10).

But I should probably make that clear in both my signature and profile, thanks.

Aware of the cut off for model year changes (sept). Isnt a 2009 the bigger bodywork, but on the same floorpan as 2008 ? As long as the gearbox tunnel, gear change area (mounting of lever etc) is the same , I should be ok with the same part no ?

thanks

Why the bigger bodywork, mine is the last of the Gen4 (the same non-ugly bodyshape imo as all others 2003-2009). Gen5s started 2009 MY10. So no difference in anything mechanical between MY08 and MY09 that I know of. The only thing I heard is some of the very latest cars got Nav as standard. Someone else feel free to correct me.

So yours is a 2008 MY08? The 10th digit of your car's VIN is your MY year (mine is a '9' hence why mine is a 2008 MY09 - the title lookup papers I got originally also say MY09). I think if you have the Gen4 6sp, then this shifter will fit. But if you're unsure, ask someone knowledgeable who sells these, like Tuspeed.

I have the part ST3501021020 as above, but it does not include the bush shown at top left in the pics earlier - held on with a vertical bolt, and has a smaller horizontal bush on the front..?? Whats with that omission ? The parts diagram (link above) shows the whole arm as one item (no 17), and the metal parts of the bush housing are not separately listed - just have bushes (item 1, 35035ag030) and tube (item 6, 35046fe010) going into it.
Tom - did you get this part with yours? If not, were there any issues moving the existing one in your car into the new linkage please? Any wear or slop in the rubber parts ?
tks

Hmm, good question. I'm trying to remember if mine had that. I could've sworn it did, but I'm having doubts now. Let me check at home later today, if I took some pictures.

Tom,

Thanks, appreciate your feedback on this. I have chased AVO (source of kit) about why the bits shown in the pic are not included...waiting for a response. I think I am going to go ahead anyway though.

If I can get the exhaust out, will that allow the heat shield down do you think? Sounds like it will go quicker if the shield is out of the way.

I don't have any pics of mine, but I'll have a look on the car tonight. The exhaust section will let u get the heat shield down. You have to undo the heat shield to get any access. But since I couldn't undo the exhaust, I could only move the heat shield aside. Still works but makes it harder due to less room.

I googled the Part# and all pictures except the Subaru one on the first page do not have this bushing. Even Garag88 (forum member runs it) clearly shows it without the bushing. And the more I think about it, the more I'm sure I only had a bare claw-looking end piece on there.

Ok, thanks. A little stuck now at getting the metal plate with the 4 bolts facing upwards out. Do I have to remove the front console sides altogether? And how do the rear sides split , where there were 2 screws into the metal plate, and you can see LH and RH moulded ? I just need to get that part to go back a bit and the metal plate might come out..??

thanks

Uhm, it's a bit hard to imagine without a picture. But I know the part you're taking about. This picture may help. I did take out the whole centre console.

The centre console has 2 hex head screws at the very rear sides (closest to the rear footwells). And a few phillips head screws under and around the gear shift boot at the front. Then it just lifts up (the handbrake boot also needs to be removed), and has 1 clip where it joins the front console piece. Plus 1 connector near the rear of the centre console.
