Key Opening Car but Not Turning - 07 Liberty 2.0

Postby Arokys » Tue Nov 18, 2014 10:53 pm

I have gone through the forms and tried allot of the suggestions to no avail.

I bought this car just over a year ago. I was away for 8 months and got back on Thursday. Car battery was very flat and was replaced. Key batteries seemed fine but I replaced them anyway.

I didn't get the little metal tag with the keys. I can't get a hold of the old owners.

One key works fine. Locks, Unlocks and Starts car.
Second key lock and unlocks car but DOES NOT start it. Immobilizer light is on the dash.

I'm figuring it needs re-coding(?). I've tried several sites and used a couple suggestions at least 3 times
http://www.ehow.com/how_6338109_replace ... -lock.html
http://www.cars101.com/subaru/keyless.html (I cant do it because I dont have the metal tag thing)
Plus a few other websites

This is seriously killing me and I dont have the time or money to use to go to a subaru dealership.

Any help is appreciated.

I just had a third key programmed for my MY05 Liberty and watch carefully as the locksmith reprogrammed all the keys for the car.

Without a key inserted into the ignition barrel the Immobiliser light will flask away merrily.
When a good key is inserted the immobiliser icon will go out. (for a while and then eventually start reflashing is you do not crank the engine)

However, when I bad key is inserted into the barrel the immobiliser icon will stay solid red. BAD-BAD-BAD. Key not recognised.

What is happening when you try to start the car?

When I replaced batteries in my keyfob it didnt start. Try putting the key in the barrel turn it to ON and press lock 6 times. Then remove key from barrel then reinsert and try your luck. Worked for me and a few other blokes. Nothing fell out of the fob whilst replacing the battery?

Good point Brunsy,

There is nothing to warn you to ensure that the transponder chip does not fall out while changing the battery!
So Small you may not even recogise what it is for?
Cheers!

BillyCorgi - What is happening when you try to start the car?

Dash does what it's supposed to do, when you turn the key it just doesnt turn over. The red key on the dash stays on as everyone said it would do.

Brunsy - I never noticed anything inside the keys when I replaced the batteries. It may have slipped out but I payed careful attention. I'll give the "6 lock pushes" again tonight.

Red key icon on dash goes out - Okay - Key is recognised by immobiliser and the engine should start.

Red key icon on dash stays solid red - BAD-Bad-Bad - Key is not recognised

How much is it to have a key recoded? I'm in Perth. Can i just send a key away or do I have to give the car and all it's keys to someone?

My recoding cost $130 with chips key cutting and battery

You need to present all the keys and the car to the locksmith

The reprogramming is performed onto the car, not onto the key.
