I priced them up for the GTi actually (before going OEM Alloys like I did) and prices varied a bit. Personally after buying wheels/tyres from interstate before, and also locally, I now prefer local. May pay a little more but local service is far better! I know its a fair way from you, but hit up Tyrepower Kensington Park. Matt Stanton is the owner, and did very good pricing for Kumho tyres for me ;)

If I go Kumho's I'll be getting prices from the locals. Theres a Tyrepower in Hackham I wouldnt mind seeing what he can offer. Also Bob Jane who I went thru to get my current tyres. Put it this way Kumho's will be the base range of tyres I wont go below.

As far as rims are concerned I can see your point. Especially when parting with 1k, you'd want to make sure what you buy comes with some sort of warranty.

I've got KU39 on the GTi, and very happy with them so far. AA grip rating and a tread wear rating of 280 - the grip seems plentiful.

I had Pirelli P7 on the GTi when I bought it, and the KU39 is definitely a better time IMHO. Don't be fooled into thinking Kumho are a cheap n nasty - they have a proven record for track history and make a good tyres! not like they are goodride, or kinforest and that crap ;)

I had ku31s on the lib, they were good. Predictable and good grip, would ABS a bit during really hard braking. For a lib under 200kw, quite capable. Could definitely throw the car around and never let me down on the street.

Having said that - they're not on the same level as Re002s. "ABS, what's that?" And "What is this 'losing grip around corners' you speak of?!" :D

I think it depends what the car is used for too. For daily duties where reasonable tyre life is a consideration along with good grip, kumho are great value. I was looking at Nitto Nt01 as I could have got a set for $600, and would completely out perform the KU39 BUT would be overkill for the commute to work.

For me, good grip for occasional hills sprints, low noise as possible and needs to have decent wear life in them. Im not going to track the car, but on occasions I will push the handling limits. If the ku39's can give me this then its worth pursuing.

My personal opinion on that is ku39 suits the bill, but others may disagree

I like Pirelli PZero Neros...I think the last time I bought 4 for my Liberty it only cost me $850 fitted from Jax Liverpool when Keiran used to work there.

Looks like the wheels and tyres are gonna have to wait. Tax bill & BAS payment came in. Not pretty.

Still want to get new wheels and tyres, or at least new tyres eventually. Lee, kindly referred me to a deal on Gumtree for some Dunlop SP Sport 01 for a bargain price. Spewin

Hey guys,

I've been told by my wheel alignment place that my RHS CV boot is leaking and needs attention. I don't know to what extent if it's just the boot or the rack/rack ends that need replacing. Just wondering how much to budget for to get this fixed?

Car is has done 101560km.

Im thinking of holding off for the moment as my tires will need replacing within 10,000km, and I know another alignment is required when you need to do anything major to steering racks. Will consider the Speedy Carbine's then at the same time and hit 2 birds with 1 stone so to speak. Will be a pricey exercise to get this all done at roughly the same time. :? But it's better to do it this way than pay for 2 alignments.
Cheers

legend.

Thanks Ben. That's a lot better than I thought. Will budget for this come next service. Im trying to raise funds for coil overs to be fitted at the same time. If not coil overs then some replacement shocks and springs for cheaper.
