Liberty GT MY05 Power Steering Pump exchange options

Postby leigh » Fri Oct 24, 2014 5:21 am

Hi all,

Just an FYI, my power steering pump is leaking as they all do. Many places say no you have to buy a new one that'll be $750 thanks.

Lots of searching I found Mr Racks in Seven Hills NSW does exchange rebuilt pumps for $185.

MSR, Michael South Engineering for a complete drive in drive out for $350.

I thought I'd just post this to save others the hassle of reading through a million how to rebuild your pump stories.

Have you tried replacing the dodgy $2 o-ring before you pay for an unnecessary new pump? It fixed mine even after 3 different mechanics said it was stuffed and my only option was to replace entire pump.

Liberty GT MY05 Power Steering Pump exchange options

I have a similar issue, car booked in to my mechanic Friday. Unit is leaking oil despite this the levels in the reservoir seem ok odd. Power steering loss seems to occur after a mid to high throttle application. Anyone make heads or tails out of this?

The symptoms that you described are similar to ones that I'm having. I found this on a WRX forum that may help on how to replace the o-rings however need to source them from somewhere possibly at https://partsouq.com/

Which o ring? The one on the return line plastic piece at the top of the pump?

I am getting oil leaking at the reservoir too. I have been told the return house goes hard and can't seal at either end anymore. Was thinking of just replacing it with a length of hose rather than the hose from Subaru which I'm told is about $100.
