Gen3 Suspension

Postby schplade » Thu Oct 02, 2014 5:41 pm

Hey guys,

Looking for some advise on replacing my aging suspension in my 2002 Liberty RX sedan.

The car has done 200k now and according to pedders, the rear springs/shocks are gone and need to be replaced $900 inc bushes or $1600 to do all 4 corners with their off the shelf "stock" brands.

At that price I'm thinking I might as well buy a set of BC coilovers or some 2nd hand Bilsteins(seems like ~$500 is the going rate for these?) and fit them myself?

I'm mainly looking to maintain the existing comfort levels, and adding some additional handling would be an added bonus but really an afterthought, happy to keep the stock height as well.

Are coilovers going to make the ride noticibly harder/noisier? Same with the bilsteins?

Or are the Bilsteins too old to consider putting in these days?

Thanks for any advise guys, the more I read about it the more confused I get about it all as I'm not after handling/ride height.

i bought some bilsteins for my gen 3 rx a few months ago from a JDM B4 Blitzen. (same suspension as standard b4 anyway)
They are absolutely brilliant for road driving, not rock solid but theyre firmer than the OEM RX ones and ride very nicely in corners.

Theyre definitely a good upgrade over the standard OEM suspension if youre happy with stock height so id recommend them if youve gotta replace them. You can get them for under $500. I got mine for $350 and i saw another guy on here selling them for $400. just keep an eye out for them ;)

Im sick to death of my front wheel gap though haha but eh cant do much about it without spending $$$

The bilstein's do sound like a great idea, should I be worried about KMs on them? I'm looking at a set that was apparently removed after 85k.

Yeah lowering the front would look a lot better, but I already seem to scrape on enough driveways at stock height :(

Ah fair enough. Up to you if you wanna buy them but I put 90'000km billies in my 3GEN and they work a treat :P depends on the life they've had really.
