Dash light issue

Postby rickycyng » Fri Sep 12, 2014 10:38 pm

Hi all

I took the lib out tonight & realise my dash lights and heater control lights were out. They were still fine when I drove last night! The dash lights (where the clock & km display is) lights up when I don't have my parkers or beams on. Heater display is perfectly fine too. But as soon as I twist to first notch the dash becomes pitch black instead of illuminating. No signs of light on the heater control buttons too but the heater display still functions fine. All other lights on dash works fine - ABS, H/brake, H/beam, indicators etc

I searched around but there doesn't seem to be any solid answers.
No electrical wiring work has been done. Head unit is still from factory. Brake lights, high beams, indicators are working fine. Blown bulbs seem unlikely because 2 areas lost luminosity at the same time.

Please help. Cant go night cruising atm :?

Thanks!~

Did you maybe knock the illumination brightness switch with your knee? It wouldn't be the first time that had happened.

Nah already looked at that. The lights to the hazard light switch & the door bottons are out too. Initially i thought it maybe fuse because all went out at the same time but after checking the fuse box they all seem fine.

Yes I have. So far I've taken the fuses out to make sure the connection isnt broken. I dont have a multimeter to check if there is power going through though.

The tops of the fuses have point to test them.

You should invest in a 12V test lamp (cheaper than a multimeter and better at testing fuses), just a cheapie will do.

Connect the lead of the test lamp to a good ground, then probe each side of the fuse.

Lights up on both sides = good fuse
Lights up on one side only = blown fuse
No light on both sides = circuit is turned off

Unless you are 100% the fuses are all OK, there is really no point in taking the next step in testing.
