Just got this system second hand from eBay a couple of weeks ago for my preface gen 4 auto. Yep, it's damn loud. I love the look but it's too loud for me...

I was considering a big resonator section to replace the bit just after the dump pipe but if it's more likely the mufflers then I'm not sure if I should bother...?

Give it a week to carbon up Allen, before you bite the bullet to add another resi.

Thanks Shav,

I'll see how I go. Done about 200 kms on it so far but not much change. Hopefully it does settle down a bit.

I reused a few gaskets so I really should change them for new ones too but I don't think that will make too much difference...

Cheers,
Al

Sounds like it may be the older version. I have the newer one and the noise is very good (not too loud at all, especially on cruise/idle)

Al... you're screwed. they dont get quieter, they dont carbon up much, the gaskets wont change shit. another resi wont do shit. its the muffs, there's no baffling. sorry mate

Surely there has to be a cheaper way of getting this system to be quieter than changing mufflers?

I will tweak the tune and should eliminate the noise ;)

Energy cannot be created or destroyed, so the tune needs a tweak to change the harsh engine noise into more power ;)

Most off the stock tuned guys will remember what stock exhaust can be made to sound like with just a tune(quieter)

I don't doubt your ability as a tuner, but you really should hear these things. They dont have anything for noise reduction in the mufflers, like stainless wool or mesh etc. They are literally 'straight through'. You might as well take the centre pipe off and run from the cat, it would sound the same lol

Did a cruise tonight and we went through a tunnel, there were many frightened motorists. LOL.

Wow, you never made my exhaust quieter back in the day  you even commented about the drone being horrible after the tune.

I like this new "kido sales" - 200% talk for 20% results. I've never seen a v8/v10 mustang not use 4 big mufflers, but rely on tuning instead to meet roadworthy levels of dB. And those pro drag cars....if only they weren't so loud, they'd be so much faster, right?

80% of the results still come from the hardware. If you need a quiet exhaust, put some mufflers on there.

The noise you're hearing can also be attributed to having more freedom for flow in the exhaust - result of less restrictions and therefore power potential. Exactly the opposite of the kido pitch about "wasted energy".

(It is also possible to get fairly close to maximum flow potential and keep it quiet with a proper exhaust setup.)

The tune attributes a very small part to this....

Perhaps you should tell your customers this before making it sound like you can make a no mid muff 3" TBE sound quiet with just a tune... :alcoholic:

My wife puts the window up in carparks sometimes and ducks her head because its 'embarrassing to her' lol.
Don't get me wrong, performance-wise they're great. Restriction free, good gain. They're meant for a trailer car though ya know, one that spends more time on the track than the road lol
