Swaybar sizes

Postby superjoshism » Thu Aug 28, 2014 12:30 am

I'm looking into getting front & rear sway bars for my Gen V soon and from the searching I've done, I can't seem to find an answer as to whether the front or rear should be larger.

I know the suspension is purely up to how you want the car to behave, but as a general rule of thumb for a daily driver, which one should be larger (if any)?

For the GenV, I have found that both being same size makes them more neutral. Rear larger to induce oversteer

Ah ok. I was looking at a 24mm front and 22mm rear from Whiteline. I might stick with the 22mm rear and see if I can find a matching 22mm front one from Cusco or the likes.

Be aware that the size isn't the only factor in how stiff a swaybar is. A 22mm solid bar will be stiffer than a 22mm hollow bar. A 22mm hollow bar from one manufacturer may be stiffer than a 22mm hollow bar from another manufacturer.

I believe Whiteline match their front and rear bars together - if they sell 24mm front and 22mm rear as a package, they clearly believe that pairing works well - they've put a lot of time/money into their development, and they can probably be trusted (likewise Cusco and other good quality brands). :)

Ah cool, on the Whiteline site the 24mm front is all that shows up for the Gen V's

I know that Whiteline bars are solid, no idea about Cusco though
