Owen: Do Shockworx have a statement on the legality of their coilovers for road use?

Something around manufactured to fit specific vehicles, exceed manufacturer requirements, meets ADR/TUV/etc approvals?

This question has been answered somewhere in the previous pages. NO aftermarket height adjustable coilover complies with ADR approvals in Australia.

Having said that, you can get the car engineered with coilovers. I haven't really looked into what that entails though.

Thanks Owen. I asked just as an addition to another thread here. :)

Last time I looked into this (a few years ago) I found that they ARE legal in Queensland as long as they use the original mounting points on the vehicle, don't reduce minimum ground clearance below 100mm, don't perform any worse than the OEM suspension (or some such vague wording) and maybea couple of other requirements. Not sure if recent changes to rules around vehicle modification have changed that.

Sorry Rob, no updates until the 31st of Aug which is when I'll be doing the final test at Winton. After that it'll be smooth sailing.

Haha sorry just waiting for Callum to get off his ass and get me the photos. I need photographic proof of what went down or nobody would believe me....

Let's just say I was put in the race car category, and I was only 3 seconds off the fastest cars of the weekend with no brakes.

Here's a rundown of what happened on Sunday -

First session, second lap - my front pads caught fire and I lost all braking power (I don't know why I thought Hawks were going to be OK for just a couple of hot laps). Did a few cool down laps and tried to go for it again but by then the brake pedal was almost at the firewall before the car even began to feel like slowing down.

Spent the next 2 sessions trying to adjust my driving so that I wasn't really using my brakes, which meant I was slowing down at the 150m markers..then coasting into corner entries. By the 3rd session I had it pretty sorted, and started to make up lost braking time with cornering speeds even lightweight Silvia and Evo owners were impressed with (Shockworks FTW). Bar the brakes, the rest of the car performed flawlessly. The suspension matched with my low end torque gave me the corner exit speeds which allowed to to catch the lighter cars in my group. For those who don't bat an eyelid when they recommend 24mm solid sway bars as an upgrade to others, perhaps you should think again. At no point did I feel like there was too much roll, even on semi slicks. Mid corner grip is just phenomenal, even on the high speed sweeper and your right wheels hit bumps at 120kmh on full load.

Here's the results for the day. I came 18th outright out of about 100 cars with full interior and no brakes. Almost every car above me was a stripped out dedicated race car except for the M3 which was worked and running full slicks.
