Wagon suspension, how to access rear strut tops?.

Postby Kevlar GT » Sun Aug 17, 2008 10:30 am

Has anyone with a GENIV wagon changed their struts over themselves? If so do you have pics? How do I access the rears especially - do I have to pull half the stuff out of the back?

Looking at installing my coilovers finally (have cleared some space in the garage) and would rather do it myself than get the shop to do it for me.

I have done the suspension in my Foz and my old RS so not afraid to get hands dirty, just stuck my head under the rear end of the wagon and thought "How the hell do I get to this from in the car?"

Prefer to hear actual experience rather than speculation (doing a good job of that myself).

Cheers in advance,

Kev

Hey mate i'm sure Phat can help ya or anyone else that has a wagon..

But as far as I know, you will need to remove the inside pannels that are on the side in the rear.. that is where you will find ur access point from the inside :)

Well it is in the sedans.. shouldn't be any diff!

The rears are really easy to do. Just put the back seats down, remove the spare wheel cover/carpet and the two side carpet pieces also. You don't need to remove any trim, just lie down in the boot and look under the edge trim under the side windows, you will soon see the two 14mm nuts that you need to remove from the top of the struts. Thats pretty much all that holds them at the top.

If this is as clear as mud I can take a photo if necessary but you should be able to work it out.

Cheers for that, I was kind of hoping I would not have to remove the seats and or trim. Pretty sure I will manage from here.
